Does God Hate? And who would know?
News coverage of the Anglican (sic?) Churches consecration of an openly gay bishop had some wackos in the background with one sign in particular that stated...God Hates America......

My question to that person would be
1.) How do you know?
2.) Are you in contact?
3.) If he has told you he hates America, does that mean he's a "liberal"?

If God hates America, does that mean he's a liberal? That's funny. And sad.

2. I only know what I read....
And I read someplace that God is Love. So I guess Satan is Hate? But would America be so black or white that it could be defined as all-loving or all-hating? As usual, there seems to be some gray areas between love and hate...

3. You're a fundie if...
If you have ever claimed to know the mind of God, you might be a fundamentalist whacko nutcase.

If you have ever hated in the name of Christ, you might be a fundamentalist whacko nutcase.

5. Yes, he does.
If it's true that God made man in his own image, then yes, God hates.

6. I have to believe if the sign said
"God Hates America" that Fred Phelps and his babbling buffoons were in the audience. That's exactly the kind of signs they prance around with.

9. "For God So Loved The World." How do I know?
The Bible tells me so. I prefer to believe God. Proof. None. Thats where faith comes in. We'll all find out in the end. You better hope your right though.

15. Well according to the Bible 'reason' did not create the universe.
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 10:41 PM by RuB
Faith did. Faith is the most powerful substance in the universe. Only one thing moves God who made the Universe according to the Bible: Faith. God allowed His Son to be crucified by Faith according to the Bible.

edit to add 4 words at end of sentence.

Bible is a confabulation of superstitions written 2000 years ago. Time to take a trip to the 21st Century.

26. Yup
And the "superstition" tends to guarantee all power and all wealth to a certain (small) group. The 1300 year old set of superstitions is just a johnny-come-lately in a long history of such schemes.

18. Other way around. Faith trumps reason.
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 10:55 PM by alcuno
Reason would tell us that there cannot be a God; faith means that you put that aside and believe. The error that many Christians make is in putting too much credence into the Bible; treating it as if it were a fact checker. Without the Bible, there would still be a belief in God and there would still be faith.

God didn't give us the Bible, that was a product of man's need to have evidence.

12. of course God hates
According to the Bible, everything bad that has ever happened in the world, all of the wars, mass murders, rapes, genocides, disasters, etc. stem from Adam & Eve breaking ONE rule thousands of years ago.

Talk about carrying a grudge !

Is having people speak for him.

You know, people who get off on telling everyone else what God thinks.

17. People create their God in their own image.
People who are hateful, create a hateful god.

Please note that this is not to say that there is no god. Even if there is a god, that doesn't prevent people from creating their own perception of what that god is.

22. To me, god is a metaphor for love. Whether love can hate is a fascinating
question. Love has so many different meanings, as does hate, that it seems to me that even a metaphor for love must oppose someone who is so diametrically opposed to it.

Maybe not hates. But certainly rejects.

31. Yes Fred Phelps knows...God hates Fags
Of course, look up "fag" in Fred Phelps's dictionary and the definition will be: "anyone who does not spew constant hate and bile like Mt. Vesuvius and justify it by selecting supportive Bible verses." In other words, if you do not join Phelps in actively seeking to smite gays, you are a FAG. What a laugable, pitiful creature, so racked with internal torment.

28. I have pondered this as well...
My questions come off as critical of God but really they are more critical of organized religion as a whole...

If there is a God a higher being that created all, who's to say that he gives a damn what Humans do on Earth? It created so much we'd be a small drop in the bucket for it to ponder.

And who's to say that God would have all these human traits like being judgemental of how one lived one's life or narcissistic enough to care if you "give yourself to him" and pray to him, and for that matter whether you attend the right man made buildings and donate money to them.

I just don't buy a lot of organized religion's arguments about what God supposedly believes and how you will be damned if you disagree with it. The Bible is a man made, man written instrument of religion and considering what is in it, it comes across as the greatest scam in humankind. The funny part is how all these supernatural events occured before journalism really began or before cameras or video recording existed and yet now that we can keep track of what occurs on this planet it all stopped. And we are to take the bible as a literal history of the world.

Because of all these doubts I think christians should stop trying to be so absolute and ignorant towards other opinions and religions. They have no proof that what they believe in is any more real than what others believe in yet they feel the need to go to other countries and impose their will and religion onto others. And alas that's why we had a 9/11 and we have the wars we have isn't it? Because American Christians can't just lay back and be happy that they have a pretty solid membership core here.

Instead they have to attempt to conquer the world and use corrupt politicians and blatantly false television shows (see the 700 Club) to lie to people and tell them that intolerance will open heaven to them.

To people like Warner, Bush, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell... this is a crusade. To the American Troops that are being murdered, they are finding out that the crusade is a losing battle.
