Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 11:37 PM by pruner
I have a poem on my wall that was written in my grandfather’s day book in December 1921. It’s what I use to give myself a kick whenever I feel otherwise.

He drew a circle that shut me out---
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win;
We drew a circle that took him in.

4. Do you know why the battle flag was even adopted?
It was used because the official Confederate Flag looked too much like the US Flag at the time. It led to soldiers on both sides mistakenly shooting their own guys. To avoid this, the Confederate army adopted the battle flag to be used on the battlefield. The flag wasn't a symbol of anything other than an attempt to save some lives from friendly fire. Because of the typical emotions felt when your loved ones die in a war, the battle flag became a symbol of deep significance for those fallen southerners. Unfortunately, some hate groups like the KKK and other white supremisists hijacked the battle flag and essentially stole the perception of the flag. We shouldn't allow them that power. The Confederate battle flag is a symbol of those who lost their lives in battle and it's such a shame that some would so easily let hate mongers lay claim to something that doesn't now and never did belong to them. It's quite sad, really.
