WhiteRoseSociety.org needs the donation of a used PC
Ben needs something with specs exceeding Pentium II with 400mhz or better.

If you can help, contact Ben at:

http://www.WhiteRoseSociety.org/

Go to the website. Look at the service provided. This is a truly worthwhile cause...

...archives of Mike Malloy, Thom Hartmann, Peter Werbe, Enid Goldstein, and more. This allows you to listen to programming of your choice at your convenience.

If you have a PC that fits the description and it's collecting dust...

2. I have one...
But I don't think it's 400 mhz. I'll check to make sure.

3. Love White Rose.
Could he ask for donations? Many of us consider it a worthwhile site. More than worthwhile. The leaflets make me cry, they are like today.

6. Look at his website. He's unemployed yet acting as a DU radio archive...
network.

He needs donations. He and his donors pay for all that bandwidth.

The keyword is "unemployed."

7. I had not been to that section in a long time.
I have a link just to the White Rose part. Did not realize that. I always try to support who I can.

11. I could use it...
Hi! Yes, that would be useful! Right now I do 90% of everything on an older iMac, and the rest on an ancient Compaq Presario running W-98 and an ancient HP Vectra running Linux. So I am all set with the appropriate Mac tools. I still need the PC for Randi Rhodes though as TotalRecorder does silence removal, and Audio Hijack Pro on OSX does not.

Thanks!

-Ben

I didn't think that anybody would do more than point me to some cheap sources of machines! I appreciate you going to bat for me.

Yes, we could certainly use a donated machine! We could also use any financial contributions. As you pointed out, I am unemployed, and things are getting to be VERY difficult here! We've cleaned out the 401K, and are living on a shoestring. I am an embedded systems programmer, and you only need me if you are designing new products. Very, very few new products are being designed now. Sad thing is that I would happily work at a quarter of my previous rate, but there is just NO work!

12. Good wishes, spells, and prayers seem to work...
I just got a call about doing an instrumentation project with folks I've worked with before! I go in to see about this tomorrow at 1 PM!!!

I wonder if I'll even sleep tonight? I am SO nervous!

In the meantime, watch for more good wishes, spells, and prayers.

Last time I worked for these guys, they had one month of work for me and it turned into five... I am hoping for a similar result...

15. Here's the scoop...
Looks like about 6 weeks work doing a safety system for a chemical reactor. Just my sort of stuff. I'll know next week if it is going to happen., which depends on the contracting firm getting the contract.

You know, four years ago, people wanted what I do so badly that they were paying $20K hiring bonuses... This economy is in the tank!

17. Will do!
Nobody has emailed with a concrete offer of a machine as yet, but I imagine that will probably happen in its own good time as these things usually do.

18. Landed!
Well, the contract was approved for at least the initial study phase, and so I now have a gig!

Yay!

Employment looks SO good after a long dry spell!
