Become a Selective Service System Local Board Member

The Selective Service System wants to hear from men and women in the community who might be willing to serve as members of a local draft board.

Prospective Board Members must be citizens of the United States , at least 18 years old, and registered with the Selective Service (if male). Prospective Board Members may not be an employee of any law enforcement occupation, not be an active or retired member of the Armed Forces, and not have been convicted of any criminal offense.

Local Board Members are uncompensated volunteers who play an important community role closely connected with our Nation's defense. If a military draft becomes necessary, approximately 2,000 Local and Appeal Boards throughout America would decide which young men, who submit a claim, receive deferments, postponements or exemptions from military service, based on Federal guidelines.

4. Blood thirsty crowd needed

Back in the days of the Vietnam War, I lived in the county with the reputedly most blood thirsty SSB in the country. Then the draft lottery came which clipped their wings a little. I did not get drafted. Later I became an Officer in the USNR.

How much leeway are there in the "Federal Guidelines" that would send Chickenhawk children into the maw and not those who simply cannot afford college tuition?

14. yes, most of today's young men will go to their deaths/injuries like

sheep...there is little interest by today's young in this war, in anti-war protesting...the only interest seems to be attacking returning DC anti-war protesters....IMO, it'll be real easy for the military this time around...the outrage just isn't there...nobody really cares about the on-going slaughter of our young in Iraq and Afganistan...without any outrage, the DRAFT is real easy...one quick swipe of shrub's pen, and it's a done deal....

8. I applied

and last weekend I got an email saying it's going to be forwarded to whoever it is that selects the board.

People, they are getting ready. I don't want to sit on a board and make these decisions but I'm more afraid of what will happen if I don't.
