I Thought Americans Were Tough Customers
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 01:22 PM by Stevendsmith
Americans don't like to be ripped off. We bitch about unfairly high prices, we send food back if it's not to our liking, we expect good customer service, and we're not shy about voicing our dissatisfaction. Americans on the whole are a pretty frugal and discriminating lot.

Why then are so many Americans (roughly half if the polls are accurate) still buying this phonied-up and god damn expensive misadventure in Iraq. What the hell is with these people?

1. Well, it's like college I guess
I mean you pay for your kids college, even though college is really no guarentee of future success, particularly if your child is a dope. I suspect its like that, they aren't payint to much attention, and, even though it looks like your kid is becoming a slacker and borderline acoholic, once they get that diploma everything will be ok.

I might be mixing my metaphors.

2. They'd have to admit they were wrong.
They don't do that to well.

Why do you think they hate historians who go back and try to correct hisortic accounts and dismiss them under the blanket of revisionism?

They don't want to be reminded of broken promises to Native Americans or the near genocide of same.

They don't want to be reminded of anything that taints their saintly self image of themselves as Americans.

3. I don't think any minority will have trouble answering that one.
Prejudices are reinforced by the media; and there's a political agenda pushing the media.

4. That was during the Days of the Old Republic
We live in a different nation now, with a different National Character (or ast least we are tranisitioning towards it).

We are a much more slavish people than our parents and the generation who stopped Hitler.

We are every day getting closer in National Character to the Good Germans who would allow Der Fuhrer a free rein, because he was SDUCH an honest and Godly man.

And living one seems to really float some boats.

7. Self-service Filling stations
I am serious here.

There is a interesting lag-time parallel between the rise of self-serve filling stations and the rise of Conservatism and its ugly step child war-mongering.

The fumes seem to damge a certain higher part of the brain and the functions of which allow primitive brain impulses to take over.

9. We're not tough customers...but we like to believe we are
Look around you, and face the facts.

Americans will eat any swill which is put in front of them.

I was reading years ago that in terms of customer satisfaction, American consumers are the easiest crowd to please in the world.

Tough Customers? Try Tokyo consumers. THEY are tough. (at least that's what the article I read said).

or smashing in the faces of desperate losers, then yes....americans tough as hell.
(there's a sheriff named 'aroyo'(?) who i heard recently calls himself 'toughest sheriff in America' who uses brute force terror etc to control prisoners; he's not tough he's just a bullyboy imho)
