Bush's words on dead soldiers repeated from old speech.
He couldn't even come up with a new line.

From today's USA Today:

Bush did not mention Sunday's casualties as he addressed a group of small business owners and community leaders at an Alabama factory. However, he spoke of U.S. casualties and said, "Some of the best have fallen in service to our fellow Americans.

"We mourn every loss," the president said. "We honor every name. We grieve with every family. And we will always be grateful that liberty has found such brave defenders."
From the speech Bush gave October 9 at Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire.

Nearly every day in Iraq we're launching swift, precision raids against the enemies of peace and progress. Helped by intelligence from Iraqis, we're rounding up the enemy. We're taking their weapons. We're working our way through the famous deck of cards. We've already captured or killed 43 of the 55 most wanted former Iraqi leaders, and the other 12 have a lot to worry about. (Laughter.) Anyone who seeks to harm our soldiers can know that our soldiers are hunting for them. Our military is serving with great courage -- some of our best have fallen. We mourn every loss. We honor every name. We grieve with every family. And we will always be grateful that liberty has found such brave defenders. (Applause.)

The slug can't even come up with some words appropriate to the tragedy. And I bet if someone were to keep digging we'd find those words in other speeches.

10. Hot damn.
It's a shame the White House can't afford to pay someone to write some new speeches. Maybe Peggy Noonan will do some freebies.

27. I wonder how Joseph Robsky's family feel?
The October 16th (California) speech is more or less exactly the same as the Octover 9th (New Hampshire) speech, with the odd bit of editing, or topical reference (eg to the UN). But it replaces the name check of (still alive) Jake Negrotti, whose family was at the speech in New Hampshire, with a tribute to Joseph Robsky, who was killed on Oct 10th, and was based in California.

Repeating a political speech a week later seems OK; but to turn it into a form letter, with 'insert name of local dead soldier here' is pretty cynical.

Oct 9th:
"And beyond Iraq, the war on terror continues. There will be no quick victory in this war. We will persevere and victory is certain.
I am confident of victory because I know the character of our military -- shown in people like Master Sergeant Jake Negrotti..."

Oct 16th:
"Beyond Iraq, the war on terror continues. There will be no quick victory in this war. But if we persevere, our victory is certain. I'm confident of that victory because I know the character of our military, shown in the conduct of young men like Joseph Robsky. He's a career soldier. ..."

Bastard dishonors the soldiers he has sent to die in a needless, preemptive war! How dare him not mention the soldiers who died and were injured yesterday (god knows how badly) on their way home for a brief respite!

22. Otherwise, it was a real thumbs up day

President Bush gestures to the crowd that gathered in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, celebrating his best day yet in Iraq. Wow, 16 KIA's in one shot, that's a new record.

24. May be the same old tired words...
and the same old tired delivery, given to that hand picked audience that goes around the country with him; my ? is, what has that SOB sacrificed?

He made a big deal out of 15 jobs created in that plant....but didn't mention the 20,000 lost because of the cutbacks in businesses that are moving overseas. Job growth by attrition? What the hell is that?

Friggin' dud! Next thing you know, he'll be telling everyone he saved John McCain's life in 'Nam by grabbing him after his chute wouldn't open! (Like Reagan bombing Germany, must have been one hell of a bomb run, Hollywood to Frankfurt).
