11/4/02 ...where were you? My dog and I were in the streets. Our streets!
In Dallas we were in the streets. The Mockingbird/Central bridge to be specific. We marched, in the cold rain, towards SMU as the little FratBoy glided by in his armored -- heavily-armored I should say -- limo. We got closer to the little man than any protesters have before or since, to my knowledge. He knew. We knew.

Folks, where is the passion, a year later? Where is the passion to stop a war we believed we could keep from happening?

We have to do better. We are slipping away. The war-hawks are licking the blood from their lips and considering us as their next victims. VERB SAP!

1. I was on my way to work and passed right by you
I honked my horn and gave a thumbs up, but that's all I could do at the time.

3. Did you have a DU sticker on your back window?
Anyway, thanks for the honk.

4. No, I haven't gotten a bumpersticker yet
but I will soon. It's good to know there is another Dallasite who is on my side. I've begun to feel pretty lonely lately.

5. Lone Ranger-ville for liberals.
Stick with us. We need a breakfast club. Weekday mornings at Kuby's. I'm at my NC house now, but I'll be back in Texas for a few days beginning about 11/10. PM me for a bodacious breakfast at Kuby's.

Mac

2. As it slips off the bottom of the screen , I realize ...
None of you really give a shit. What a heartbreak. What a disappointment.

Few of you vocal youngsters have ever been in the streets. Fewer still have ever been in the bunkers as the 122's rain in. I've got scars from the NVA and Nixon's thugs.

The scars from the Nixon thugs still hurt the worse. Get ready, young readers, a shitstorm waits. Can you spell D-R-A-F-T? Fuck you all if you can't.

Oldsters? Cat got your tongue?

7. DemoTex! This is the first time I have seen your thread.
I wasn't there, because I was in Chicago and at work. But I have been in the streets. Yes, a shitstorm awaits.

My nephew got out of the Army in June, but is now in the National Guard. His old unit from Schofield Barracks is being sent to Afghanistan in January. I am relieved, as are his (repuke) parents. My nephew is feeling regretful. There are times that I want to knee-cap him. But I won't, would probably shoot myself first. What a bloody waste this all is....

8. I give a MAJOR shit
Thanks for being out there. I've marched so many times, I've wondered if I could do it again.

I barely missed being drafted myself, and my son turns 16 soon.

You and everyone who turns out in Dallas in the rain deserves our respect. Keep it up.

13. A whole bunch of us were in DC on Oct. 25
Afterward, we logged on to DU only to find out that we were unwitting dupes of a Stalinist organization that advocated killing U.S. troops and by association we were anti-Americans who were wanted to see more soldiers killed.

Won't stop me, though. Organize a protest and I'll be there. I went to several in Chicago before the invasion and a few afterward. I dissent and I'll be out in the streets with you.

17. Hey DemoTex ... was Cheney anywhere in sight?
If so, your pup may have been overcome with the urge to do his business! (I'm still laughing about the stunt you pulled re: Dick's lawn!)

18. Lots still care, DemoTex! Many, many DU!
Unfortunately, television is the drug of the nation: Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation (as the Disposable Heroes of Hiphopcracy put it). People interested in being heard are beaten over the head with the idea that they are isolated — ineffective — outnumbered — identified — to the point they feel it would only serve to get themselves snuffed when martial law comes. From what I remember about the USA PATRIOT Act, the Little Turd from Crawford can declare anyone he wants a terrorist and that qualifies said citizen for termination.

Nevertheless, it wouldn't be right to sit back and let the unelected moron and his minions get their way and continue destroying our Constitution, bankrupting our government and stealing everything that is not chained down. I'm not going down without a fight. It's the least I can do for those people who've sacrificed their lives, well-being, and service so I can live free. And it is OUR country! We are still Americans and that means I can do and say what I want!

PS: When I'm next in the Metroplex, I'll give you a blast on the horn. Let me know when you're in Motown! We have a nice Pancake place that makes a breakfast apple strudel the size of a hubcap you might enjoy...
