Alan Colmes, the left's least loved liberal

NEW YORK - We're here for a book signing by Fox
News Channel's house liberal, Alan Colmes, because
we're curious: What kind of person lines up to
have a book signed by Alan Colmes?

After all, it's no secret who watches Fox News.
The channel's brightest lights are Bill O'Reilly,
Sean Hannity and Brit Hume -- putative if not
professed Republicans all. The network is run by a
former GOP operative. Even E.D. Hill, the perky
co-host of Fox's morning show, sounds like she was
vetted by Karl Rove.

And then there is Colmes, co-anchor of Fox's
nightly show "Hannity & Colmes" and a liberal
Democrat. The difference between him and everyone
else on Fox isn't just ideological, though, it's
temperamental.

It's Colmes' lack of demonstrativeness -- his
best-known physical attribute is a raised eyebrow
-- that endears him to the Fox faithful. At least
that's the impression left from an unscientific
survey of customers waiting outside a midtown
Manhattan bookstore last month for Colmes to sign
their copies of his new book, Red White & Liberal:
How Left Is Right & Right Is Wrong.
