Poll question: What should happen to the Democratic Party if 2004 is lost?
What do you think should be done about the Democratic leadership if it loses more seats in Congress, seats in state/local offices, and of course the presidency?

1. Green Party all the way baby!
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 01:32 AM by knight_of_the_star
At that point the Democratic Party will be dead in the water if they fail to stop Bush for a thrid time in a row. They've been so marginalized and have watered themselves down so much that not only would you need better leadership but a change of face. The party will limp along for another decade or so, but the Greens will eclipse it after that. Assuming of course that we even have free elections after a Puke win in 2004.

2. this poll would rock
It specified in which direction, to the left or center, that we think it should move in.

7. Over-simplification...
...left and right are not the only directions in the political spectrum. With each election cycle, both parties have been moving toward more centralized control in tandem with big money and corporate interests.

5. I would say to the left if I had my druthers.
The center and Bush Lite hasn't worked. Clinton was the only one to pull it off and he's not coming back!

4. I would fire everyone
McAuliffe woudl be gone and every other Bush lite Senator and Represenative. I would purge the party of its veterans because frankly, they have just run out of ideas.

13. We have one in Minnesota: The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party
Technically, our equivalent of the Democratic Party, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), is a coalition party that was formed in the 1930s when the radical Farmer-Labor Party (2nd largest in the state at one time) merged with the more mainstream Democratic Party.

In the past, it's worked well for us, and we've had a great state to show for it. Unfortunately, a bunch of conservative reverse-carpetbagging Republicans have started to show up from way down south and from points east and west and have started to turn my beloved state into a cold Alabama. :(

If anything, if you want to get technical, I am a Libertarian Democratic Socialist who supports the Green Party but votes Democrat only if the candidate is compatable with my views.

15. Democracy itself would be dead.
We would have a one-party state, like Japan (LDP has ruled since the 1950's with a one-year interruption) or Mexico (PRI ruled for 71 years, until 2000).

18. With the party of Jefferson...so goes the nation.
This country began as a multi-factional system of government. It became a two-party system with the Democrats and the Federalists. Although one of the other parties has changed its name with time, the Democrats are the political milestone for our system of government. Our party has always been there to represent the democratic principals of Jefferson, Madison, and Jackson.

We cannot allow the basic fundmentals of life, liberity, and the pursuit of happiness to become luxuries, which only those of privilege can enjoy. No longer can we stand by, as the very foundations of all democratic governments are slowly being destroyed for the benefit of the elites in all democratic nations. If action is not taken soon, it will be too late. If we do not save democracy, who will? And if we do not sacrifice for a better future, our children and their children will be doomed forever to a hell of our making!

I believe in those pricipals as well but that is not the democratic part of today...The greens are much much closer to what the founding fathers envisioned..

23. The Founding Father's would not be comfortable in any
political party today, especially not the greens. Jefferson would have had a stroke if he saw half the government regulations that we have today.

But times change, for the better.

20. If dems lose again
we will be forced to secretly hijack it with the socialist left just like the fundie right hijacked the repukes.

very slowly we will preach moderation, but the second we attain power, we will wreak socialist havok across the lands until no religion or corporation has any influence in our society ever again.

22. which is what should be done anyway!
But no. It's better to just throw the rhetoric out there and then when it's time to vote on the Bush/Neo-con agenda just go along with it like some certain Congresspeople and Senators I know of.
