1. If I weren't so tired I'd load up and watch the "trailer"
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 03:09 AM by progrocker69
But just looking at the page I'd say it's just more right-wing bullshit against somebody who's not afraid to rake up the muck and make lotsa waves.

After reading "Stupid White Men" and watching "Bowling For Columbine" as well as a couple DVD's of "The Awful Truth" I'm convinced we need a whole slew of Michael Moores to bring down the rethugs.

On edit: I know Michael Moore has detractors even here on DU, so please let me state for the record that I DON'T think Mr. Moore is perfect or can do no wrong. But I sure as hell don't think the man hates this country!

15. New RW Slogan...
Well now can there be a conspiracy?

Just a week ago the Minnesota Commissioner of Education defended her right wing social studies standards with the comment: (paraphrased) "I don't think the standards should be part of the 'Hate America' agenda."

Now "hate America" shows up again. Isn't it amazing?

No doubt that we'll hear slogan more and more in the next year, as we move closer to the 2004 elections.

26. Why do conservatives HATE Democracy?
Should we fight hate with hate? Fire with fire ~ Hate with Hate. I hate it but it is probably the only way. America is a hate mongering country. Hate is the only thing that will make an impression.

5. Hell yeah!
ROFL

I went ahead and watched the trailer because curiosity made me.

You're so right.

Oh well, let him have his movie. Frankly, if I were Mr. Moore, I wouldn't let him interview me either.

4. This is what I feared
You know, Michael Moore says that he represents the left, and I have no doubt that he is a leftie himself.

However, since everyday Americans look at him as the flagbearer of the left, they could assume that the rest of the left is just like him.

I don't believe everything he says nor do I approve of it. He is somewhat like the Rush of the left, however, not even as close to the vitriol he spews out.

21. Great! You shouldn't believe everything.
I don't believe everything he says nor do I approve of it.

That's what's cool about the left... we think for ourselves!

I do think that anyone who makes a documentary can't help but inject some bias into it. I'm thinking of one documentary I saw long time ago called "Cadillac Desert" about how water was brought to the city of Los Angeles at the expense of some farmers in the surrounding area. It certainly presented both sides of the story very evenly, but just the interviews of the farming families in jeans and work shirts contrasted with the interviews of the Mullholland family members... one woman positively dripping in silver and turquoise jewelry and interviewed in her home with the lovely furniture surrounding her... spoke volumes. And as for writers, does Ann Coulter cite the dozens of sources that blast her assertions all to pieces? Certainly not!

One thing I do have to say for Michael Moore is that I've never seen him to be deliberately cruel. He may be cynical, and he may show disgust, but I can't imagine him making the sorts of comments that Rush made about Chelsea Clinton. So, sure, sometimes he's outrageous, but he's never mean. And one of the best kinds of propaganda is humor. If you manage to get people laughing at their own foibles and contradictions it often defuses all the bluster.

No, Michael Moore isn't perfect, but he's one of the good guys. He's on the good side, and I think the good side needs all the allies it can get in these really, really bad times.

6. Jiacinto: Two Thumbs Up!
Yeah, it'll really go places with THAT title. God forbid the Repukes have an original idea.

My favorite part: "in theatres, summer 2004". As in one, maybe two theatres. The only distributor who would pick this up would be the same guy who booked the "Left Behind" and "Omega Code" epics. :eyes:

Well, we probably don't even need to inspect. Rumor and gossip ought to be sufficient... not to mention that the trailers are already up on the internet!

A 2 hour montage of Best of Shrub shots, people waving flags, saluting, and Protestants praying all to the background music of "God Bless America" looped over and over?

11. He's a savvy kid
Michael Moore is an easy target. and this kid knows that Moore has hit a nerve with his movies and books sooooo i would imagine that he'll get funding from the likes of Scaife or some other conservative group...should be a good movie, special effects, words taken out of context..elaborate backgrounds etc etc....He'll get some cash out of this...republicans eat this shit up..they view liberals as the worst of society and love anything that confirms thier distorted views....I should become a republican..but im not a greedy selfish hypocritical dickwad.

Kinda like becoming a Minister for the money, respect and tax breaks... not a bad idea. I was also thinking of becoming a guy who "Talks to the Dead", like the dude on TV. But then I remember that I have something called ethics :eyes:

17. Dissent is Patriotic...
Chomsky, Michael Moore...those who care enough about America to dissent - are the true patriots!

I wish I had five cents for every vacuum-packed dittohead that told me that I 'Hate America' because I don't agree with and follow in Sheeple lockstep whatever the Bu$h Regime does.

I wouldn't need unemployment, then!

19. Hilarious!
Seeing as how I still holda grudge against Moore, the concept of an unknown filmmaker trying to get an interview with THE Michael Moore and getting brushed off is HILARIOUS! And poetic justice.

24. the usual suspects
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 10:55 AM by dymaxia
Look at the links page. It's Cato and Penn & Teller etc.

Where do Penn & Teller get off? I think their cable show disappeared because it was so slanted & manipulative. They piss me off the way they abuse reason & logic - they just went and found some dumb hippies to make everyone who doesn't agree with their libertarian agenda look bad.

Going out and finding some "happy" poor people doesn't prove anything, and is even less empirical than Moore's stuff.

I wonder if the filmmaker got money directly from the Koch brothers.

25. He wouldn't do the interview
because he says he only appears in his own films.

And Michael Moore rocks. He's one of ours, and I wouldn't trade him for all of the conservative radio and FOX News coverage in the world.

27. one more thing
He makes a lot of claims on his site that aren't substantiated. He claims that Moore is gearing up for a defamation lawsuit and pompously declares, "Absolutely nothing. I'm not changing this title. Not for you. Not for anyone. I'll fight you to the Supreme Court to assert my right to free speech... especially when that speech is political."

Moore just said it was "libel". If he doesn't "hate America", and someone claims he does, it IS demonstrably false. There is no way to objectively determine that someone "hates" America. That doesn't mean he's going to sue. So where's the lawsuit?

Also, he claims he's getting "death threats" - does he realize how many death threats Moore gets? Probably 100x the death threats.

Then they're trying to revoke his Oscar. That's not very "libertarian" now, is it?

One more thing - someone should ask this guy where he is getting his money.

28. Here's your first clue...
"Michael Moore Hates America" is on schedule for release in the summer of 2004... around the same time Moore's next film "Fahreneit 9/11" hits theaters.

http://www.michaelmoorehatesamerica.com/news.html

The RW is in an all-out war now with Moore because of his new film. He must be discredited. You're seeing the "Hillary-ization" of Moore and it will get much worse than this. They will destroy him before his movie is released.

29. It's a very high compliment, though
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 11:39 AM by dymaxia
This will just backfire. Instead of gaining fame on their own merits, they are seeking success by attacking someone who is more successful. Plus, they can't destroy him. If he's still as popular after the Oscar thing as he was before, they can never destroy him. They can't do anything about him because he's not a politician - he has an audience, and he sells tickets and books! By their own standards, he's a huge success!

I'll bet they'll blow their right-wing smear job completely. I don't think they know how to do muckraking right. I could probably do a better job attacking Moore, and I'm a fan!

What is hilarious is how they have to beg for donations to get their film made, moorewatch.com is begging for donations.

Meanwhile the "unpatriotic" Moore did things his own way - he started out with a community newspaper, then he got his film made. He's a self-made man! No think tank money here!

The right is so bereft of talent and unoriginality that they have to be bankrolled by think tanks and people like Scaife. They can't make it on their own, because no one really wants to listen to a humorless conservative old pill!
