Spain announced it's pulling out most of it's Diplomats from Iraq,
and the Dutch announced last week they were pulling out. The Red Cross has pulled out. How many more countries? Have I missed anyone else?

Heard about Spain on CNN, but haven't seen print press stories about the implications of this. Since Spain is Chimpy's ally this seems worrisome.

Also, it would seem this kind of withdrawl by "coalition" members would bode badly for Chimp and Blair to start bombing Iran or Syria which was speculated about last night here on DU because some folks in Scotland have seen "Air Force Activity."

I don't see how chimp/Blair could pull this off when they are losing support from their third ally, Spain. It would make US/GB look like we were the "Rogue Countries" of the world.

Anyone have any thoughts on if they really would gamble on WWIII in the ME all alone?

1. The buzz is that they are about to invade and occupy Iran

supposedly to begin with a huge aerial bombing campaign.

Sure, they will do it alone. Who's gonna stop em?

5. "We don't need anyone's permission"
remember. Bush leaning on the podium and saying those words to the UN. Which reminds me....he was on his made-for-TV-ranch when those troops died and didn't, DID NOT, mind you, make an appearance on TV to speak about it. I think his brain is turning to ooze.

2. Only Aznar is Chimpy's ally
The bulk of Spain despise our little dictator.

4. There aren't enough troops to invade Iran. And, supposedly Iran wouldn't
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 01:14 PM by KoKo01
be a "cake walk" like Iraq was. They also have a better military (at least that's what's been speculated). Just bombing wouldn't be enough. They probably would bomb back. Not good for Iraq and approval back home. Remember the lie is that we went there to "Liberate Iraq so the people could form a Democracy."

How would they sell a change and have people accept it? Chimp would need Blair's support and I don't think the Brits would give it.

He would be seen as a "Mad Man" if he did this, I think. Seriously. Wouldn't he?

11. What a sad picture. Glad you posted. Chimp will never be seen having
the compassion Clinton did. And, he did have compassion. Along with some misguided passion, but people sensed that he did care about people and his actions. Chimp could care less.

9. Who knows? Maybe it's just to depopulate Iraq

or Afghanistan. Although as you have probably seen, Halliburton is doing very nicely, it has still not been possible to get a secure corridor for pipeline construction in Afghan, or get enough oil pumping in Iraq, so I imagine the partners are whining.

As for how many troops they have, they don't need that many to carpet bomb, and if they depopulate successfully enough that will reduce the number they need on the ground, and they can just use commercials for most of those, like they do in South America.

About 10% of what they have in Iraq are commercials already.

10. Spain is irrelevant
what are they contributing apart froma fig-leaf. The US is already considered a rogue nation, and in any case the PNACers don't care what the rest of the world thinks.

15. No! Spain is not irrelevant. Chimp/Blair/Alazar were "team mates" in Iraq
Invasion. Spain is Definitely NOT Irrelevant!
