Bannergate- another question
How did they get that banner on board? Did that have to come in via jet also?

I wanna know who made it,
where it was made,
when it was made,
who paid for it,
how they got it onto the ship,
when they got it onto the ship.

Inquiring minds want to know.

3. the spin
according to the spin - the banner was the "NAVY's" idea, and the whitehouse made the arrangements (i.e. Whitehouse approved it, had it made, paid for it and had it delivered..)

soooo, Baghdad Bush laying it out as being an entirely "Navy" project was true up to the point that the Whitehouse approved it, had it made, paid for it and had it delivered....

splitting hairs if you ask me...

5. The banner was clearly made by the Bush camp.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 04:39 PM by Brian Sweat
It looks just like numerous other Banner's used by the Bush people at other events he has attended.

On Edit: Also, I don't think they said it was the Navy's idea. I think what they said was that someone on the ship asked for it. My guess is that a Bush advanced person was on the ship and sent a request back to HQ for the banner.

7. See, I know this is a BS story.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 05:52 PM by MGKrebs
Not really important in the big scheme of things. Except...

I think this is just the kind of thing that will piss people off if they find out it was a total charade. We're way beyond the "Oh, Bush just misspoke when he said the crew did it."

Let's say it went something like this:

The sailors say they want to put something up (probably BS, but we'll never know for sure.)The advance team gets on the satphone to San Diego Navy base and asks for a sign. Do they make it right there on the base? Do they sub it out to a local printer in the city? Do they have it flown in from DC?

Once the sign is done and the ship is approaching, they have to get it out to the ship somehow. Does the sign roll up? It looked stiff to me. And large. Did they bring it out by boat? By chopper? By jet? What jet could carry it and land on the carrier?

If it was anything OTHER than a jet, Shrubbie's charade is laid bare as the totally hypocritical, cynical, campaign event that it was, and his campaign should pay for it all; satphone calls, advance team travel to Hawaii, use of Navy jet, nuclear fuel used for the carrier idling around, extra pay for all sailors on board. Oh, and the sign too.

8. Just adding a little more info for the record.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 08:49 PM by MGKrebs
"After the news conference, a White House spokeswoman said the Lincoln's crew asked the White House to have the sign made. The White House asked a private vendor to produce the sign, and the crew put it up, said the spokeswoman. She said she did not know who paid for the sign."

on edit: man responsible for the banner; Scott Sforza, White House communications office.

9. FOIA request
I found a site that helps you write a Freedom Of Information Act request.

http://www.rcfp.org/foi_lett.html

So I used it to request information regarding who made the banner, who paid for it, and the cost.

If I wasn't on somebody's list before, I'm surely on it now!!

:-)
