How are the elections in your area? |
|
Do you live in Virginia, New Jersey, Mississippi, or Kentucky? Do you live in Louisiana, where they don't vote for another week and a half? Do you live somewhere else, but have elections in your area?
Tell us! How are the elections going? What's on your ballot? Have you voted?
I voted earlier today. There's not very much here in Kentwood, Michigan; just two City Commission races (one uncontested) and a millage proposal for public transit.

1. Live in Iowa, voted earlier |

In this city, we have a hotly contested mayoral race, a few aldermanic races(including this ward) and a referendum on whether there should be additional taxes for more libraries. I voted for the write in guy for mayor, as neither of the listed candidates is worth a lot, imo and I voted against the incumbent alderman because I don't like him as a person. I voted yes on libraries because we cannot have too many of them. Hope the people in Kentucky and Mississippi vote in Dem Governors.

I live in New Jersey. The entire state legislature is up for grabs from what I hear. It's been a hotly contested race in South Jersey with Diane Allen (the Republican incumbent and former Philly TV news personality) financing attack ads for herself and other Republican candidates. The state Senate is evenly divided 50/50 between Repubs and Dems so the Repubs are obviously calling out all the shots (as they're also doing in Philly where the Mayor's position is up for grabs and the Justice Dept. just happens to be running an investigation into the incumbent Dem mayor right before the election). Locally it's been pretty quiet though I'll be glad tomorrow when the flood of attack literature (especially from Republicans) stops attacking my mailbox. When I went to vote (around 2pm) it was pretty quiet and my district was still only in double digits as for votes.

Are these the legislative elections the doctors have stuck their noses in? I've heard that some NJ doctors were out campaigning for the repubs so that they could get a tort reform measure through, so I assume this was the election.
Hope it turns out well for you guys up there!

The doctors went on "strike" a few times in the past year to protest high insurance premiums. I'm not sure if they really sided with the Repubs but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to capitalize on the problem. The Republicans have mostly been concentrating on blaming the governor for the financial problems the state's been facing since federal funding was cut.

4. Another Michigan voter ... |

... I was #80! Not much to get excited about. They didn't know when our primary was, either.

there was only one person there besides me at 5:30 p.m. I took the time to let the workers know that California stopped certifying diebold machines and are now investigating whether elections were held using uncertified software. I spoke on the touchscreen issue and the internet voting Michigan seems to be headed for. They all agreed that whatever system we used, we must have a paper ballot.

The state senate is evenly divided and could go either way with just a handful of districts making the difference. Democrats have a narrow lead in the state assembly but we could lose that. It will be close. Polls have just closed.
There are also some county executive races and some freeholder elections. Where I must say, I hope the republicans win. The democrats suck.

we only have city council and school board races going on. My school district also had a referendum. While turn out in my area is light, it's a little higher than normal for a city race, no doubt because of the referendum. (But remember Minnesotans, Govenor (and Bush stooge) Pawlenty didn't raise your taxes - it was your local school districts)
As I fed my ballot into the scanner I had the urge to grab the election judge and scream "Can you guarantee me my ballot will be counted the way I marked it?" I never felt that way before.

In my part of PA, it all goes Republican anyway. But I voted for the first time ever today.
