What's your method of voting? |
|
In my precinct, we use ballots that go in the scanner (optical scan?). We mark our choice by connecting arrows, like this:
George W. Bush -------> <------- Al Gore ------->--------<------- Ralph Nader -------> <------- Pat Buchanan -------> <-------
How do you vote?

like those tests we did in high school...use a pencil to bubble in the selection, then slide it into the scanning machine...I believe these are optical as well...supposedly the most accurate system out there.

9. Yes, scantron type ballots |
|
You fill in the circle next to your candidate's name, with a #2 pencil. Very accurate, very cheap, and very easy to read/decipher. There are some advantages to living in a poor rural county- we actually have paper ballots.

Computer-fast results WITH a full paper trail.
And I always write-in somebody, so if I had to, I could spot my own ballot ex post facto.

7. Vote by mail in Oregon |
|
via punch card. Sit down at the kitchen table with my voter booklet and info that I've collected so I can look up the less publicized local office candidates (different local boards, etc.), punch my card, check for hanging chads, pop it in the envelope, sign it and into the mail it goes.
Love vote by mail, feel like I can be a much more conscientious voter.

I'm waiting for my baby to wake up, then hubbie and I will vote.
Luckily, any tampering should be evident, since the county always goes democratic. Every member on the board of supervisors is democratic.

Big gray metal thing, throw the lever, curtain closes, notice the lack of Democratic candidates, shake head forlornly, flip the little levers down, throw the lever back, rememerge from behind the curtain.

I take two six-sided dice into the voting booth. If I get an odd number, I vote Democratic. If I get an even number, I roll again. If I get a 13, I vote green.
One time I dropped both of my dice, and I couldn't see exactly to where they disappeared. So, desperately I peaked out of the voting booth and yelled "Quick, someobody give me a number between 1 and 12!" To my disappointment, someone shouted, "two". So, I sighed and yelled, "OK, now someone else!" To that, someone shouted "seven", so I thanked everyone for their help and voted Democratic.

Also, in my county we fill in the little circle, but I believe it varies by county.

we have the printed ballot--we go into a curtained off private stall--we take the pencil which has been there for all the voters so far, and we read the ballot and in the little box on the printed ballot, we mark either yes or no with the little pencil. Then we open the curtain , take our ballot in hand over to the place where a person is sitting in front of a large wooden box and drop the completed ballot into a slot in that box. What happens after that? --I suspect someone opens that box after the polls close at 8pm, and, with others, take a tally of all the votes and then reports it to a central command.
