Department Of Wellness?
I just came across this a few minutes ago - a few excerpts from an interview with Teresa Heinz.

"Some people are surprised when a--quote--spouse, particularly a woman, has opinions. But, you know, women have been told to shut up for centuries--because they didn't go to school, because they didn't know how to read and write."

She predicted she would be an activist first lady, lobbying for a Department of Wellness that would stress preventive health. She would also invite spouses from across the country to the White House for bi-monthly meetings to encourage public service.

"It's hearing and validating people and making them feel they are worth their opinions. This country is just waiting to have the light switch turned on."

1. Oh ho
I sense a competition here between the Theresa Heinz and Dean's wife, who is also an MD and who has said that she does not want to get into p olitics but is quite happy pursuing her career in medicine.

You know, if that is the case, I do not look kindly upon this wealthy woman who is jumping on the bandwagon here.

3. Teresa has been dealing with healthcare issues since she was schoolgirl.

She worked with her father delivering healthcare to the poor in Mozambique. It has been a focused passion of hers for over 40 years. She has funded research and healthcare centers for the poor in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Before you slander one of this country's greatest philanthropists, I suggest you do some research.

2. It's Worth Looking Into...

Save the taxpayers millions in healthcare. Boost the "wellness" industry (generally not evil). Get people off the meds and maybe into the gym.

These are big problems, and the root of it is that we approach our health the same way we approach any problem...we wait for the problem to manifest before we do something about it...then it's really too late and we look for the "quick fix".

Can she be our first lady even if Kerry doesn't get the nod?

4. She promoted preventative medical care since her early years in Africa.

She said that she saw firsthand how catastrophic problems can be averted through those preventive measures. Where they worked it was always a matter of life and death.
