Peace-Action: Primary Voter Guide/Candidate's Answers
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 06:13 PM by G_j
Today Peace Action officially released its Voter Guide on Foreign Policy for the upcoming  presidential primaries. The Voter Guide, as well as the full answers by each of the candidates to the questionnaire, can be viewed at, or downloaded, from the Peace Action website at http://www.peace-action.org/2004/  Issues addressed include new nukes, preemptive war, civil liberties, human rights, and international cooperation.

We are also publishing an organizing guide on voter education and candidate bird-dogging (available on the website).  This is guide intended to stimulate some creative activity around candidates' public appearances in addition to being a general resource for organizer's doing elections-based work in 2004.

1. Hey, there's one for the bookmarks.
Good work.

I noticed that Braun, Kucinich, and Sharpton all gave essentially the same answers, and they were diametrically opposed to Bush.

7. Wow. Read DK's responses.

Is it my imagination, or is he the only one who gave a full set of clear, detailed, thoughtful, original answers? Assuming he wrote them, I can't help wondering why he doesn't just talk like that. He frustrates me.

8. Actually, I think others gave good answers
Carol Moseley Braun, for instance. I also appreciated Sharpton's answers (Yes, Yes, No, No...) for their directness.

Edwards and Kerry gave decent, thoughtful answers-- although I don't entirely agree with their positions.

Some of the candidates of course didn't answer the questionnaire, but were quoted from public statements.

But I do agree Kucinich gave some good answers.

Overall I think it's a great site for comparing the candidates on issues of national defense and foreign policy.

9. I'd like to see this done with the environment
also. Perhaps it has?

Environmental questions would add to an overall understanding of the candidates for me.

12. League of Conservation Voters
The League of Consevation Voters has good presidential campaign pages. They are somewhat limited in that they mostly do congressional scorecards, but I have noticed that they are keeping updated lists of statements from the campaign trail.

Last summer they had a forum which Braun, Dean, Kerry, Lieberman and Sharpton attended. It was carried on the radio program Living on Earth, and you can still listen to it or read the transcript on their site.

It's also at cspan if you want to watch on realplayer.

14. Can I agree that Kucinich was great
Basically the reasons why I support him, I am becoming more pacifistic by the days.
