My Subconscious Says: Lieberman Is Not A Democrat
An amusing thing happened as I was getting tomorrow's column ready:

In the last paragraph, in order to make a point about something, I list all the remaining Democratic candidates. The first time I did this, I wound up counting them, realizing I was missing one, not being able to figure out who it was, wondering if someone else besides Graham had dropped out or what...anyway, I went away and figured I'd get back to it.

Then I went and looked at the list and thought, aha! I left out Lieberman!

So I emailed EarlG to ask him to add Lieberman, protesting that I had not left him out on purpose.

Then I decided I needed to make some other changes, so I figured, I'll fix that while I'm at it. So I added a note to the beginning of the new version for EarlG, saying that I had made x y and z changes, blah blah blah, and also added in Lieberman. Then I went and made all the changes.

EarlG writes back and says, "Got the revisions, btw, you forgot to add Lieberman again, so I put him in."

Well, Freud says there are no accidents. Something in my brain just will not consider him a candidate.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

1. Your subconscious is wrong...
Lieberman is quite liberal on economic issues. More liberal than many of the other candidates. From my perspective, he's almost as far left on those issues as he is right on being a hawk. So he's not my candidate. But a Republican he ain't.

2. With truth in advertising,
Holy Joe would begin every speech with:

"Hi, I'm Joe Lieberman, and I represent the Republican wing of the Democratic Party."

10. Lieberman is very pro-corporate on economic issues
He's very liberal socially. Lieberman for some reason is our scapegoat - he's hardly more Republican than half our elected Democrats though.

5. He is a Blue Dog Democrat
Which means he is a Democrat that wished could he could be a Republican. Those are wrong kind of people to be running the party. I would rather have a Rabid Dog Democrat than just a blue one!

I thought when he ran with Gore that he was there to assuage the political sensibilities of of the so-called moderate Republican voter.

Would someone tell me what is a "economic liberal". That's a new one on me.

7. Joe is a D.
Lieberman may be pro-business and hawkish, but he's still a D, and works on environmental issues and campaigns against Republicans in elections. If anybody deserves the R next to his name, it's Zell Miller.

It's still way up there in my conscience.

9. Liberman is a valid Democrat
He just may not be too far left enough for the more extreme here.
