Anyone supporting Alex Penelas for senate?
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 06:43 PM by Bombtrack
his campaign website is under construction
http://www.alexpenelasforussenate.com/

I think that considering his term is up and he's touring the state, his entrance is inevitable.

I've heard him give a couple of speeches and he really comes off as a great guy.

Read this article for some background
http://www.floridahispano.com/html/alex_penelas_-_the_people_s_ma.html

I think that looking at from the parties perspective, he is a smarter choice because of his age. I believe he's not quite 40, meaning his being a future presidential, vice-presidential, or senate majority leader candidate is much more likely than someone like Betty Castor or Peter Deutch. We know how important Florida is now, and it will be even more important in the coming decade(s). Graham is from the Miami area and it would be fitting for another Miamian to take his place.

1. I can't believe
that all of these Southern Democrats are retiring. This is a freaking diaster. The only Republican seat that may go Democrat is the Senate seat in Ill. Did they all get a payoff or something?

2. you're kidding, right?
after he backstabbed Gore in Florida in 2000? no thanks, I'll pass.

With Democrats like Penelas, who needs Republicans? He'd do more harm than good *unless* he was the one Senator that gives Dems a majority, otherwise he'd be like Zell, going around the talk shows saying how great Bush is and how the Democrats are out of touch, blah blah blah.

3. I seriously hope that ....
... it doesn't come to that.

He has been a disaster here in Miami-Dade. He is a master at keeping his sleazy, crass, and influence peddling hands into just about every corrupt corner of this county. That's saying something considering that this entire county has always been just one big blueprint for lobbyist corruption and manipulation.

He has made not one meaningful contribution to this community. His involvement is always predicated upon the lowest of political expediency and self-aggrandizment.

He is a prick. He will stab anyone in the back to further his self-delusional belief that he is some hot young Democratic up and comer.

We can only hope that he gets severely trounced in the primary since we can be absolutely certain that the majority of this still very red-neck state will never vote for an Hispanic Democrat from Miami-Dade. Much less one that carries the history, baggage, and contemptible track record of this vile little snake.

It's a shame that he calls himself a Democrat. I would seriously considering just not voting for the office of Senator if he were the Democratic candidate.
