Reagan miniseries is more damaging to Republicans this way. |
|
The vast majority of comments I've heard on the Reagan miniseries, from my mostly apolitical coworkers and from viewers on television and radio, could be summarized as 'CBS shouldn't have been bullied into silence' or 'the critics are creepy, pro-censorship types', or 'what's wrong with letting me decide for myself?', etc.
If the miniseries had been allowed to air on network TV without controversy, it probably would've have garnered about as much attention as the DC-911 movie, and simply faded from view.
I honestly think that they've smeared themselves much more than the miniseries would've smeared Reagan.

1. True, I'm hearing the same thing from Repub acquaintances.... |

And where were the Dems when "Primary Colors" came out? Oh, that's right, tending to the business of running the government.....

2. Interesting take on it |
|
You may very well be right. Even people who barely care about anything don't want to be told what they can or can't see. Basic human nature for anyone above the age of 2.

4. My theory is that this is revenge for the Mel Gibson "Passion" brouhaha |

The Repubs and hate radio mavens are playing tit-for-tat.
Censorship always backfires; Anyone with a basic understanding of human nature knows that trying to suppress something from people only makes those same people more curious about said thing. Admittedly, it's a convoluted way of saying it, but...

3. We heard nothing about it until DAS REICH... |

started screaming about it!
Peggy (Bitch) Noonan said that she would boycott any company that would sponsor this series!
May we liberals need to boycott conservatives in some way?

5. Net effect of the forced cancellation a plus. |

This has generated a ton of publicity for the movie, which will be shown UNCUT on Showtime and released to video.
The Republicans are shown for what they are, censoring bullies who do not allow any views to be aired that are not conservative PC.
It will hopefully start a discussion about all the failures of the Reagan years, as Rep Dingell outlined the other day.

The demand for it will be huge. Everyone will want to see what all the fuss is about. That means $$$ trumps right-wing censorship.
Capitalism works in our favor for a change.

It made the Republicans look like they have something to hide. They do, Reagan was a lousy president who couldn't even answer simple questions without reading from his script.

Maybe since what they seem to want is movies that are factual. What about re airing the Iran Contra hearings? I"m sure c-span might still have copies. Isn't that what could really be behind what is going on now in Iraq? We have all the same cast of characters.

22. who's heard of KAL 007? |
|
notice the 20th anniversary (sept 1/83) of that con-job mass murder passed w/out a peep from massa media; they want people to forget it even happened cuz even now you look at it and 911 comes to mind IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! how can a modern jetliner fly over hours 300 miles off course into some of deadliest airspace on earth w/out notification by Alaska ATC, Japan ATC or THE RUSSIANS THEMSELVES!!?? KAL 007 showed the vile bastards how to grease up a nation for some vicious screwing; in 20 years they'll pretend 911 never happened (oh, yeah them planes crashed into empire state building...buncha iraqis was pilots i remmber?? hohum...)

the bastards got what they wanted - censorship again in another category. Now, every network will not even think of broadcasting anything questioning of the cons/neocons.

I think there should be an ad campaign based on what one of you said above: "the movie the republicans don't want you to see"---come on DNC, get with it because it not only gets people to watch/rent it (tell them it will be on video) but it immediately casts the repukes into some anti-American, evil doer, creeps, slimebag mold. We could do something with this IF we use our brains---opps, I forgot, I'm talking the Dems actually pushing something..how silly of me.

it pissed them off that Beautiful, Bright, and Popular Barbra Streisand's husband was playing their dimwitted gipper.
I would think of rehooking my high end cable to see it...but then again...nah...
