Clark accusing military of trailing soldiers to check if they're gay...
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 08:51 PM by Some Moran
He pisses me off for going hard-core anti-marijuana though.

How the heck is it worse for soldiers than booze?

5. "drug abuse"
any reference to people who smoke pot was phrased as "drug abuse".

20. You are wrong....he was talking about Drug abuse (period)
When asked if he have ever smoked...he said I just answered the question. In the military if you are caught smoking or taking any drugs, you're out. He already said that medical marijuana is most likely a good. That we should certainly show compassion to those in pain.

Le't not twist "drug abuse" to mean anything other than what it was meant for.

Should he had said....well I guess a little toke is alright now and then....cause I didn't hear any of the other candidates elaborate on their experience beyond saying yes.

2. I never heard the anti-pot thing...
...which would make me take a LONG hard look at the General, lol.

I still think he should use "The General" by Dispatch for his campaign song, and if he hates pot...that's unlikely. lol

Later.

4. Clark Said That In The Military Pot Smoking Undermines Performance
and military culture frowns on drug abuse.

I'm going to figure that being career military is kind of like being a top athelete... you don't want to compromise your physical or mental performance.

In the military your life and the lives of others are on the line.

6. pot and the military
do you really want someone stoned driving a tank?

i mean, we've all seen Kelly's Heroes... and we all try to "stop with the negative waves" in fiction - but the reality? Could you imagine a 4 star general celebrating a bombing success by scoring a dimebag?

Of course, a drunk in an Abrams is probably scarier...

10. Paula Zahn Asked Him 2 Questions
First one- about "don't ask don't tell" in military... she asked Clark to be more specific in his answer about why that policy doesn't work in some places and he said that there were military people who'd follow suspected gays and report on them.

Then she asked for comment on potsmoking and Clark made it pretty clear that wasn't what he was about... and that military culture doesn't go for drugs.

8. He Has A Point
I would think the contention that people shouldn't operate heavy machinery on drugs should be uncontroversial on any board.....

9. Pot is hardly
a performance inhancing drug.

I wouldn't want my doctor, policeman, teacher, loaded on anything when they were performing their duties.

Actually Clark has stated that people who smoke pot for medicinal reasons should not be treated as criminals.

11. When I Was In University
I got stoned socially alot... and did very well academically... who knows how well I'd have done if I hadn't had that albatross around my neck.

My Dad was right, it turns out... drugs slow you down.

Haven't smoked pot in like 10 years. :+

13. Yeah
I agree. I took a few tests a bit baked. I did ok but probably would have aced them if I wasn't grooving on the patterns on the ceiling.

My kid summed it up quite well. Pot makes you lazy.

I really don't have a problem with recreational use. Even now. But there is a difference between use and abuse.

12. If Clark is president
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 09:28 PM by jumptheshadow
I don't think we're going to see government agents with attack weapons busting in on medical marijuana users in California.

I think we'll see the dismantling of the horrendous war on drugs.

In fact, I would foresee a shifting of our national priorities away from ideological extremism toward policies that are reasonable, fair and practical.

22. B+ for Kerry

Name: Sen. John Kerry (D-MA)

In short: Kerry would stop the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raids on seriously ill medical marijuana patients as president. Kerry has previously said he favors federal legislation to allow people with cancer, AIDS, and other serious illnesses to have medical marijuana, with their doctors' approval.

What Kerry has done: Kerry recently co-authored a letter asking the Drug Enforcement Administration to approve a proposal from the University of Massachusetts Amherst to manufacture marijuana for FDA-approved medical marijuana research. In the October 20 letter to DEA Administrator Karen Tandy, Kerry criticized the National Institute on Drug Abuse's "unjustified monopoly on the production of marijuana for legitimate medical research." The letter also notes, "Federal law makes clear that the ... bulk manufacture of Schedule I and II substances must be provided `under adequately competitive conditions.' ... The current lack of such competition may well result in the production of lower-quality research-grade marijuana, which in turn jeopardizes important research."

16. He swins at least a 1/2 a day
In Rolling Stone he commented that he doesn't do smokes either. Take care of your body and your body takes care of you. He still gets the munchies 'cause he loves Cheetos.

17. I missed the anti-weed stuff.
It is OK to not smoke weed. He has also come out for medical-weed. I think I have read a statement about the Colombia drug war somehow that said that his handling would be differnt. He is also for treatment.

21. Yeah, I think it's probably kind of hard to reach his
level of personal acheivement if you're stoned off your ass all the time.

"OK dudes........uh................. I mean troops........................................................................................Let's like............. move out........you know?.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Hey who took my Cheetos man?

he's for treatment, not incarceration and would not prosecute at the federal level on the medical issue. This he has said.

18. first if he says it happens in the military........ I'll bet he knows more
than we do about some COs getting a little too interested in the off duty lives of some of the privates privates under their commands.

Second, I know he says he would call of the attack dogs on the medical jane issue and I believe he said somewhere that the whole "war on drugs" thing wasn't working and needed to be scrapped.

I don't have a link but you can look as well as I can.
