the whole world knows the bush bandits stole the last election,we must deal with the present and the future to insure that those crooked bastards don't repeat their evil deed again.

21. You just said it yourself... |

Know the past, to make sure it doesn't happen again. They got away with Coup 2K, and to them that teaches: CRIME PAYS. So failing to "focus on the past" is exactly what guarantees that "those crooked bastadrs" repeat "their evil deed." We need to stay aware of past and present!

8. My guess is around 54% think he was elected... |
|
Isn't this close to what shrub's approval rating is now???
This means that the hardcore Gore voters know that shrub wasn't legitimately elected, and so do most of the Greens and other independents who disapprove of shrub. This would makeup about 48-46% of the people.

9. Polls are closed, and you are right: 54% |
|
In March 2001, 56% believed he was legitimately elected. Remember, however, that only 40% of Americans vote, even in presidential elections. So while it's somewhat encouraging to know that barely more than half of Americans believe Bush is legitimate, which means the rest either don't think so, don't know or don't care, we don't know what effect this lack of faith in the last election will have on future ones. It could be that the effect will be negative.
It's still interesting.

10. That there is even a debate... |
|
...is interesting enough. I doubt even the most vociferous, partisan critics of previous administrations would contend that Presidents Bill Clinton, G.H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, or Jimmy Carter weren't legitimately elected.

When Clinton won his first term in office the GOP constantly referred to his presidency as "illegitimate". Where were YOU?!!!
"Majority Leader Dick Armey, once derisively referred to the President as "your President" during a debate with a Democratic House member. Another Republican member called Mr. Clinton an "illegitimate President" as early as January 1995." .::Link::.
"...a House member said: "He still looks like a small man in a big office and an illegitimate president." .::Link::.

14. That's true, but how many of their fellow Americans felt that way? |
|
I doubt it was even a question being polled.

18. It shouldn't have been polled. |
|
There were no election night gaffes or mis-calls, there was never a recount, in any state, during either of the elections, and the SCOTUS never had to stepp in to declare that a recount be stopped or it would "damage" Clinton's "claim" to the presidency. He won; Bush was installed. No polling of the belief in his legitimacy was necessary.

If we elected the President and members of Congress using IRV, the Electoral College wouldn't be an issue..as it was in 1800, 1824, 1876, 1888, and again in 2000.

But how many of those people do you think said "yes" because they like Bush (for whatever insane reason) even though in their heart of hearts they know he was not. I am guessing that could account for 5-10% of those that said yes.

That about half "get it" is pretty cool. People don't keep up with politics and many think 2000 was politics as usual

That perception is why this may be seriously discouraging news. The people seem to feel powerless to change their government for the better. And that's just how the ruling class likes it. And Dems participate in that, sadly.
