This election day shows a deep divide in the country
The "liberal" areas are getting more liberal and the "conservative" areas are getting more conservative.

What do you say?

2. I say: Be sure to thank Smirky the imposter!
He said he's a "uniter not a divider", and then proceeded to do what he always does: the opposite of what he's said.

5. And the legislatures, mayorships?
NJ - The Dems finally own the State entirely.

Philly - Dem mayor

I agree that Terry must go. But there's far more than meets the eye. It's a mixed bag but we did not do bad.

6. Pwwwwwssssssttttt!!
NJ-Dem state anyway.

Gee, an incumbent Democrat won the mayor's office in an large, urban eastern city?

Wow...what a surprise.

We fell even further behind tonight and we have lost 3 governerships in the last three weeks and it looks like a fourth wil fall in ten days! The ship is taking on water! Pointing that out isn't disloyal, it's friggin' common sense!

WE NEED A CHANGE AT THE TOP!!!!!!!

7. in odd years, local and legislatures really are the story...
but i will absolutely agree with this:

WE NEED A CHANGE AT THE TOP!!!!!!!

I don't know why the hell Terry is running the DNC. I know he has some real talents--raising money, assembling databases. Make him COO or something.

but he should NOT be directing the party

12. MacAuliff needs to GO! Since when does a failed head of a party get a
pass time after time after time. Failure. All he does is collect money, but he doesn't offer leadership. So the Party Powers say "well money is the most important because look at Bush's war chest."

They are missing it! They are missing the "grass roots" and ANGER over Florida! Geeze! they really did want us to "Move On" after the Fla. debaucle.....they think they can sweep it under the rug!! It's too much to bear watching all this. How we've been let down, time after time.

8. Sweetie, the governorships are quicksand under Bush.
They won't get any favors from George. He hasn't any money to give. And he has no problem cutting state throats to give his corporate pals a boost.

The Republican governors will get swamped in George's red ink regime.
Just in time for 2004.

9. I agree with your assessment
even the repukes in NJ make Dems in other states look right wing.

McAuliffe should be gone but prolly wont unless Clinton says so.

re-elected probably one of the most liberal mayors in the nation. It's not a large, urban eastern city.

18. What does that have to do with anything?
Anderson is known for being a Socialist Democrat, while Pignanelli was a Democrat State Rep so it isn't like the voters had no clue about what party these two men belonged to.

20. Look, you need to look below the surface a little bit
http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Oct/10312003/utah/107030.asp

The mayor, who insists he is not divisive, says Pignanelli is using the Mormon card, a claim he also made against Reid four years ago.

"I've heard Frank talk about religion a number of times," Anderson says, referring to how Pignanelli mentions that one of his twin sons is named for a Mormon pioneer.

At the same time, Anderson notes that he has "a very long and distinguished Mormon lineage" although he no longer practices the religion.

22. So? Your point?
Don't candidates of ALL parties reach out to a big bulk of the population? Don't tell me about MY city politics, alright? Anderson LOST the LDS vote, in fact 85% of the LDS population voted for Pignanelli and HE STILL LOST the election. So does that not speak volumes?

25. Utah Democrats are actually Republicans anywhere else
As a native of Utah (just moved to NM) I can tell you that Utah hasn't had a viable, REAL Democratic spirit in it since the defeat of Ted Moss by Orrin the Hatch. Anderson is a nice guy, don't get me wrong - but by a national standard he is no real democrat. No real democrat could get elected so much as dog catcher in Utah.

23. I think it's a split decision
Yes, the Dems (I am NOT a registered democrat, and plan not to be) lost a couple of governorships - then again, we picked up a bunch during the supposed catastrophe of 2002, including Pennsylvania, a state that is very swing, and in which we're doing very well statewide tonight.

If your beef is against Terry Mick, you have no enemies here. the guy is a corporate flack supremo, and a smarmy shitbird, in this urban Northeasterners opinion.

At the same time, I wonder whether you might not behave with a bit less rudeness and a bit more nuance, if only for the sake of your (already damaged - in this urban Northeasterner's opinion) credibility.

There's no need to be a schmuck to get your thoughts across, dizzawg.

19. How I Interpret It:
It looks like we're resuming our 50-50 scenario from 2000. The Red states elect Reds, while the Blue states elect Blues.. with Gray Davis-based abberations thrown-in.
