so let me tell you just how stupid voters are . . .
I live in a town with a Republican supervisor and town board . . . said supervisor had to resign about a month ago after pleading guilty to multiple federal counts of fraud and embezzelment of town funds . . . which the Republican town board apparently didn't notice in their oversight capacity . . .

so what do the good voters go and do tonight? . . . they elect another Republican supervisor, and one of two open town board seats also went to the Repubs . . . as did virtually every other open town office . . .

if this can happen on the local level despite overwhelming evidence that the Republicans are crooks, I see no reason why they won't do it on the national level next year . . . very depressing . . .

2. Not quite the same...
Instances of malfeasance (like you're describing) govern people's voting decisions in a different way than policies and positions do. Attempts to politicize Lewinsky (for example) backfired since the public didn't buy the assertion that, since he had mis-stated the truth in a discussion about his personal life, it meant he was universally immoral.

By contrast, the gang in Washington is losing public support because of stated-out policy decisions (tax laws, Iraq etc.) that have repercussions we all see directly, and which will be continued if the same party remains in power.

Diffidently, it's not the same thing.
