2. Sheez...
That was about the ONLY thing I voted for. Every single Seattle School Board candidate on the ballot is corrupt, and, as far as I can tell, the same applies to all the City Council candidates. I jotted down a few write-in votes - "Any pig" - but the Ergonomics measure was about the only item where I fet I actually had an intelligent choice.

Sheez, Campaign 2004 is right around the corner, and Seattleites couldn't even get it together for Campaign 2003. What a sick joke.

10. Out of curiousity...
why did you vote yes on 481?

Great title though: "Workers Against Job Killing Rules" vs. "Working Families for Safer Jobs"

Looks like StripperGate is taking effect:

4. The Seattle Times still says 841 is passing
...but the King County site says otherwise.

I don't want the codes that protect our workers reformed so builders can spare a dime. But, that's just me. I don't care all that much about it. Frankly, I'm more interested in the City Council NOT being elected by district.

5. No F****G way! This is great!
I voted no on that damned thing and was sure the same stupid voters that gutted our tax base would pass this repeal of ergonomics, especially with all the money the people that wanted this repeal put on it and the spin they put on it "Vote Yes for Jobs. Vote Yes on I-841!"

17. Essentially
It removes the requirement that workers need not accept the likelihood of being killed or crippled as a condition for getting a payheck. As far as corporations are concerned, labor ias no different than raw materials - something to be used up and replaced in whatever manner best serves bottom-line profits. Not a matter of conscience or human decency. Not even an honest cost-analysis at a macronomics level. Just an unconstrained drive for money and power. Nothing about our common humanity and the pain and suffering that results from revoking these regulations.

7. Congratulations.
The only reason a corporation would want to gut ergonomics legislation would be if it was planning to also gut its healthcare plan.

9. I know...I'm pretty shocked myself
I thought with all the money business spent to pass 841 that the voters wouldn't be able to resist. I saw a couple of women in business suits standing on the street on Cap Hill today with yes on 841 signs just smiling away.

We have a progressive law that forces builders, contractors, and business to take ergonomics in to account in the workplace. Businesses put this initiative on the ballot and spent a lot of money saying that these laws cost us jobs. Yeah, right!

20. Pretty silly rules if you ask me.
http://www.lni.wa.gov/wisha/ergo/ErgoQNA.htm

This affects small business far more than big business, IMO.

As a potential small business owner in the state of WA I would easily fit into the "caution zone" or "hazard" job levels, which would add incredible fees to my start up costs. OSHA exists for a reason.

14. I'm not sure where you all are getting your numbers
But on the Secretary of State's website, with 98.55% of precincts reporting, it looks pretty clearly like it has NOT passed. Help me out here!

15. OK...well...I now see your numbers.
I was wrong, because I got my numbers from the King County website.

And, it still says what I reported. The two sites definitely disagree.

So, I'll just wait until morning and check again. Sorry if I caused any undue alarm. And, let's hope for the best.

18. That's because...
...the King County website shows the results for King County alone, where it failed. But, of course, one single county doesn't really matter in a statewide race. My guess is that it lost in King and (probably) Pierce Counties, possibly in Snohomish as well, but it won by a landslide in the rest of the state.

19. Speaking of Strippergate...
has it occurred to any of you that Strippergate might have been a ruse? I mean, sure it was a disgusting scandal, but COME ON - there must be 417 bigger scandals in Seattle!

Yet the media gave it SO MUCH attention. I also recall an article - I think it was in the Seattl Weekly - that suggested there were no serious issues in this camapaign. Yeah, right.

If Strippergate was an example of establishment manipulation, then one has to wonder if Nicastro, Wills, et al. were in on the ruse. That's right, I'm talking Grade A conspiracy theory - and it is NOT a wacky theory. The Seattle establishment has given us some major stunts; I've come to think of them as something akin to Broadway musical, nicely arranged and choreographed.
