I hate to break up the party, but there's really nothing to cheer about. Nancy Waldman and their cronies did their dirty work and are now retiring to collect their rewards - just like Superintendent Joseph Olchefske. The "outsiders" who are replacing them are just as corrupt.
Brita Butler-Wall is especially disgusting. She's waged her one-issue campaign against Coca Cola for years, refusing to help fight for fiscal accountability - until AFTER Olchefske's team lost millions of dollars and she decided to run for Waldman's seat. Brita suddenly re-inveneted herself as a fiscal watchdog - kind of like George Bush calling himself a compassionate conservative.
For those of you who don't live in Seattle, Brita Butler-Wall is a member of the Green Party of Seattle. I forget her title, but she has by far the highest profile of any Seattle Green. I generally support Green issues, and I voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, with no regrets. However, I kept an open mind, and I FINALLY found evidence that convinced me he's corrupt - and it linked him with the Seattle School Board and Brita Butler-Wall.
Notice that NONE of the Seattle School Board candidates has a track record. It's as if they didn't start caring about kids until five months ago.

But, that's the state of affairs with our louzy school board. So, at least the symbolism of re-electing no one may get someone's attention. It is pretty incredible that no incumbents were re-elected, although I don't have high hopes for this new batch either.

The real problem is with the public, especially the teachers and parents. I worked for the Seattle School District for many years, and I was flabbergasted by the unbelievable stupidity and apathy I encountered among both teachers and parents. In all honesty, I wasn't much different when I first hired on. But after I'd put up with the administration's sh*t for several years - including a couple major hatchet jobs - I decided it was time to find out what was going on, and I became politically involved.
But I've never been able to find more than half a dozen teachers or parents who give a damn.
We'll get another crack at the "Education Mafia" next year; State Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson is up for re-election. The two individuals who have filed to run against her so far are real idiots. I pray someone with a little class jumps in.
