I didn't miss him, but was that a strategic move
on his part to separate from what some call a "circus"?

1. I don't think it matters much
It doesn't hurt or help Gephardt to have skipped this debate. I do like Gep however, so I have a bias.

2. I didnt think so
You pass up national face time on CNN, where most Dems get there news, for some events in Iowa. While he needs all the help he can get in Iowa, i believe his interests would have been better served at the debate.

3. He needs Iowa
and was smart to skip it, IMO, given the lack of audience and interest, the number of candidates (his time to talk would have been the typical short minutes and recycled sound bites).

He was smart to skip it and continue on in Iowa, as winning Iowa is his only chance to gain the nomination, IMO...

4. Would any of the other candidates gotten the same pass
for skipping it?
I don't Dean would have since the others would be screaming
about him avoiding the Confed confrontation.

5. Hard to tell. . .
. . .if he wins Iowa which could result in him having a stronger showing in other states it was a brilliant move.

If he does not win Iowa then its a riskier move.
