Andrew Sullivan and FreeRepublic

I find his recent attacks on DU to be quite hypocritical. Over a year ago, FreeRepublic used to post and cheer on Sullivan every time he savaged Clinton. I visited FR every day and would post the pro-gay Sullivan stuff they were ignoring. Each and ever time they would delete those Sullivan pieces/comments and ban my membership. They always carefully ignored the whole 'Sullivan is a practicing and unrepentant homosexual' issue (just as they do with Mary Cheney). When Sullivan's AIDS barebacking/gifting scandal broke, they could be silent no longer. I shared the breaking story on FR and again it was immediately deleted and censored. Until finally it broke into the mainstream media and Sullivan had to respond with his article 'Sexual McCarthyism'. Then FR had to let that link and story stand.

Both before and after the Sullygate scandal, one could find reams and reams of the most vicious, homophobic, anti-gay, and murderous attacks on FR. I saved many of them on my home computer because I couldn't believe the hatred the GOP bigots had. After 'Sexual McCarthyism', Sullivan actually wrote on his site how much he thanked and respected his friends at FreeRepublic. At the exact same time there were hundreds of posts there about exterminating gay people (literally). I'm only posting this in the hopes that some others may have followed FreeRepublic for years and seen the volumes of vile homophobic attacks they have published. Yet to see Sullivan now attacking DU for stuff that pales in comparison is really nauseating. This is one of the most hypocritical attacks I have ever seen, even for Sullivan.

freaks at Freakrepublic, let him. Who cares? But I do agree he should stay away from DU. Blind hypocrites are not welcomed here at DU.

4. Sullivan and FR

One can only wonder what unaddressed emotional ailment has caused Sullivan to defend one of the premier web portals of hateful homophobia.

In the case of the soldier threads, I think the RW justifiably is concerned about losing the support of the military electorate and of the voting public that ranks national security as its primary issue.

So they are going to distort and lie and spin...
