4. In Mercer County New Jersey we also overturned 24 years of Repukiclan rule
We also took the legislature, even though our Democratic Governor has been less than spectacular.

5. Thanks for the analysis
in your area. I would like to see all the Duers do this in their own areas. The day was not as bleak as it looks, just because we lost two state gov. Here is Ohio, we smacked Repub Taft good, by voting down his pet issue.
I am still stuck on the fact that here in Franklin County, we managed to turn out just 25% of the registered voters. This is sick. I think a lot had to do with the fact that the Repubs did not run anyone against the very popular Columbus Mayor, Coleman. That left just some uninteresting races and may have been a good strategy by the Repubs. If they had put someone against Coleman, that would have turned out a big Dem vote. All in all the Dems did pretty good in Franklin County and Columbus. We managed to hang on to city council.

7. Were these incumbents or open seats?
These results don't tell the whole story.

9. Ya lost me Carlos...
....these are results from the same Wards compared to the last election. No open seats.

I posted them to show the vote totals from 4 years ago and show how much of a swing the voters in each ward (and city) are now voting for the Dem candidate.

But I have used these numbers to show a little strategy for my own campaign....

I need 58,000 votes to beat Ralph Regula.

By just showing up, I get 30% - that's 34,800 voted (30 percent of the average number of votes cast in 1998, 2000, 2002)

By getting the message out consistently, another 10% will vote Democratic (apathy weighs heavy with a candidate not being publicized) - that's another 11,600 votes.

So far, that gives me 46,400 votes - another 11,600 votes and I'm in.

From 1999-2003, there was a LOWER voter turnout, and the Dem candidate still pulled in nearly 1,000 more votes than they did the previous Mayoral election (and trust me, the Repub candidate was strong and predicted a landslide)

10,600 more to go.

I'll do the numbers on the rest of the communities in my area, but I've seen the results, and a Dem swing IS taking place.

My calculations tell me that I need to keep the voters that already have swung, and add 7,000 more. I have 12 months to sway 7,000 more voters to vote for me.

And I haven't campaigned in the community yet.

I feel great about this...I hope you can join me in my enthusiasm.

10. Same thing up here in Summit County
Though we were already winning in Akron, we went from 5-10 point victories to 40 point blowouts. 40% turnout, which is high for an odd year mayoral race, and the Suburban voting was noticably different. Dems were elected in Green, Tallmadge, Wadsworth, Norton, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls, etc.

Very big swing.

11. That' very good news AWD.
We tend to hear all about the big races: governorships, etc, but not much about the more local races.

If a Democrat can win in Ohio in 2004, look out Shrub.

Good luck AWD!!

13. in my town of 30,000
Two years ago, the Democrat won the mayoral race by 200 votes. This time around, I thought he'd lose because the Repubs had a huge number of big signs all over town, while I saw maybe 1/4 that number of signs for the incumbent Democrat.

However, the Democratic mayor won by 2,000 votes this time around against the same guy he beat by only 200 last time.

small victory, but it was good.
