Are there any Hillary supporters on DU?
even though the Freepers generally talk about Hillary being the candidate for us, I'm wondering if Hillary really does have grass roots support here on DU. If so, why? In my opinion she's not running, and her candidacy would hurt us more than help us.

1. She isn't a candidate, so why would she have supporters?
Were she to run at any time, whether or not I would initially support her would depend on who else the Democrats have running.

4. I meant "Draft Hillary" types
people who want her to run.

9. Yeah I know .
I am sure, somewhere, they are out there. But I think most of them are Republicans...

I was just trying to find a way to phrase my response.

15. Yes - Hillary in 04 would be great - but Clark/Kerry/Dean can win
I would prefer Hillary in 04

I do not believe the loss of male votes will be even half the size of the increased female votes.

But a lot of folks are invested in one or more of the 9 - and she can only come in if she can find a way around the wounds supporters of others would feel.

I think she would be the strongest against Bush, followed by Clark and then Dean/Kerry.

But I do not think 04 needs her just to beat Bush.

She is polarizing to the right.

3. I like Hillary
but if she were to jump in now, after saying she wouldn't early and often, including to Dean's face, I would be furious no matter what the explanation.

5. I respect Hillary and hope we have a woman president sometime soon....
but, I like the crew we got now.

If she ever got the nomination, I'd vote for her.

6. Too bad she voted for the IWR
Everyone in the country knew what Shrub would do if they gave him that power--and they did it anyway. Any one of our Representatives who claims they were not expecting him to invade Iraq when they gave him the authority to do so is disingenuous at best.

7. I used to really like Hillary...
... and to some extent I would love to see all the freeps have an aneurism were she elected president... but truthfully, her Senate votes are much to be proud of IMHO.

I like Dean, Clark, and even Kerry more than I'd like Hillary.

8. Timing is way wrong.... so I don't support a run now.
that doesn't mean I might not support a future run.

I would guess a lot of DUers feel the same. Does this make us Hillary NONSUPPORTERS? I don't think so, but we certainly aren't rallying for a draftHillary movement.

10. I'm an ardent admirer of Hillary
But she said she won't run.

However, if she had joined the race earlier, I would put her as my number one choice easily.

I'm thinking that if Dean ends up nominated and then goes on to lose against Bush, that the one bright spot will be Hillary will be able to run in 2008 in an open field.

In a second Bush term? Geez, you are a real optimist.

11. As a NYer born and raised -
as much as I like Hillary, she promised NYers she would serve a full term as senator. Going back on that promise would bite her in the butt and do Dems more harm than good.

12. I like her a lot, but if she ran now I would not support her
Because I think it would be unfair for her to jump in and use name recognition to catipult to the top after these other candidates have been out there for months (over a year for some) working really hard to build grassroots support and gain name recognition.

22. Me too...
...I truly admire her. She is a wonderful woman and her heart, like her husband's, is in the right (correct) place. She actually cares about people.

She will NOT run in 2004, she gave her word to fulfill her senate commitment. The wingers would make mincemeat of her if she reneged on that promise. Not that they don't anyway...one of their favorite hobbies is still to malign and attack the Clintons.

Apart from that, we already have some excellent candidates running against Chimpy. IMO it's between Dean, Clark, and Kerry. While I love a lot of what the rest say, with the exception of Lieberwhore, my pragmatic side says we will have to choose from the three I just mentioned.

I had the pleasure of meeting Hillary, briefly, during one of her book signings. She's fabulous.

14. I see hillary as anti freedom
#1, shes a gun banner.

#2, she would ban voilence or sexual content or language in movies and cd's if she could.

#3, I see a nationwide smoking ban or some other stupid ban if she was president.

I aint buying it just like i didnt buy Gore. I would vote 3rd party again.

16. I like Hil...she's got more balls than most of the Dem men in Congress...
...that said, her place in the here and now is in Congress. She has said she will not run. I would be VERY dissapointed if she pulled an ahhhh-nuld and reneged.

I do enthusiastically agree, however, that it is high time for a woman president. Let the pendulum swing. Let this era of testosterone-based, patriarical politics be over.

17. The time is not yet right
but when it is, I will be first in line to vote for her, without a second thought. The counter arguments, as far as I am concerned, are fairly superficial and can be debunked easily enough.

18. Based on her record, no
I would love to support her...really, I would, but as a NYer I believe she is not representing my interests. Every vote (except the late-term abortion) is like a fresh thorn in my side.

19. I'm a big fan of Hillary
although I'm not sure if I want her to run. She's always been such a target of the right wingers, that if she ran, then the Arkansas Project and the Federalist Society would shift their attack machine into high gear. I'm not sure if she could survive their onslaught. But, if she decided to run, I would give her every opportunity to prove to me that she can 'take the heat'.

What are her accomplishments in the Senate so far? She voted for the Iraq War, the (anti-)PATRIOT Act, am I forgetting anything significant?

26. Maybe you should ask yourself why you hate her so much
Hillary Clinton has been turned into such a fictional character by Limbaugh and Drudge and DeLay and the conservative propagandists, she's more feared and admired more for what she represents than for who she is.
