4 million christian conservatives didn't vote in 2000? |
|
They keep saying this today when reporting on Bushing signing the bill to ban late term abortions? Does anyone believe that? I cannot imagine 4 million of them didn't run to vote against Gore. Is this just another propaganda technique to convince us that * really won in 2004 (Diebold)?

they didn't vote.
That's why Karl Rove is going to use the gay marriage issue to motivate them.
After the 2000 elections, Rove conducted a study to find out why Al Gore won the popular vote.
Gore ranked consistently behind Bush in almost every poll leading up to the election by like 2 percent.
What Rove found out was that Al Gore had a huge grassroots push in the final days of the election.
Now, I do not know how well the grassroots organizing is on the right, but I do not think they have the infrastructure to do so. I mean, they have corporations who only dole out money to a political machine, and they have the churches. That's pretty much it.
We have the unions, environmentalists, Black churches, and we are always politically active (you can see this because we can organize large protests in a few weeks. It only shows our communication capabilities).
So Karl Rove is going to have to set up the largest grass roots campaign on the right ever in history.

5. even so, christian conservatives are VERY aware of politics, they |
|
are taught that it is their duty to push (vote) for the Lord. There is no such thing as separation of church and state with these people. So why did they not vote in 2000? Still finding this hard to believe.

8. Talk about underestimating |
|
"they have the churches. That's pretty much it" Apparently you don't realize the numbers we are talking about here. Having the churches isn't something to say "that's pretty much it" to.
The churches are actually GREAT for political purposes. The sheep will do largely whatever they are told. This effect increases the more right wing the church is.
"Black churches". Race is irrlevent in church matters. Southern baptist anyone? You can bet your ass a sizeable amount of minority churches are as right wing as anyone when it comes to gay marriage/abortion - which we even today see becoming an issue for 04.

There was an article in The Nation a couple of weeks ago that brought this issue up. This is why we must get new members under our tent that feel they've been left out of the system.

3. Yeah, and if those who were blocked from voting |
|
had been able to vote, Gore would have won.
Those four million chose not to vote. So, to paraphase James Baker, "Fuck 'em. They didn't vote anyway."

4. It's propaganda FOR the christian conservatives. |
|
The message: Hey, look at this great new abortion ban. But don't rest on your laurels, it was sheer luck that Bush won in 2000. And if you want to completely outlaw abortion, folks, you had better start sending your checks into Bush/Cheney and get out there to vote; it's going to be close in 2004. And, remember, we can't worry about things like the economy and the war and medicare and all that crap when there are babies being aborted every single day!!!

I have yet to meet one Christian fundamentalist eligible voter from 2000 who did not vote. Given their absolute hatred of the Clinton Administration by the year 2000 it's hard to conceive of any Christian conservative staying home.

I would agree. . .they seemed fired up to punish Gore, for reasons I just couldn't even begin to understand.

11. There aren't too many conservative felons. |

Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 01:05 AM by Virginian
Being arrested brings a little humility and humanity to a conservative and makes him see the world a little differently. SOMETIMES.
I'm not sure I have this quote right, but here goes.
"A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged; a liberal is a conservative who has been arrested."
Could there be that many underage conservatives who are not old enough to vote?
On edit: Continued where I left off.

12. Are these based on church membership rolls? |
|
Those things aren't accurate. Churches reeeaaally don't ever want to take anyone off their members list. You can stay on 'em for years before you finally get taken off.

13. Whoa...are you saying that fundies are irrational? |
|
These are the same demographically 'undetected', but nonetheless politically defined bloc of voters that the People are presumeably suppose to cater to as far as elections go... They're smart...why bother to vote...the Machine covers their 'lobby' anyway... I think someone should actually start talking about how these people don't really exist in any numbers, they are simply 'funded' scarecrows on astroturf and movement conservativism on the whole has been a failure as a strategy...

14. I Believe It's True...Watch Out! |
|
You didn't see the grassroot Christian Coaltion activity in 2000 you had in years past. Fewer voter "guides" and "busses" to get the faithful to the polls (they shot their wad stopping McCain)...and really didn't push an agenda or issue in that election. I remember reading articles wondering if the Christian Right had passed its prime and how the WhittleAss campaign was keeping them at arm's distance.
Vote percentages were higher in the "Blue" Democratic areas (cities) compared to the "Red" Zones. No wonder Rove took a real good look. And he's been paving the groundwork to energize these people since day one.
First was that repeal of U.S. assistance for the U.N. birth control programs and every move since has been fine-tuned for Christian Radio and via Hate Radio and it's other conduits. Listen carefully and you'll hear the buzz words all over the place. The biggest is: Cultural War. The concept is that our nation is Conservative and must vote so to assert those "values" (never defined...it doesn't have to be, Repugnicans are selfish so no one cares about anyone else).
We either have to counter these millions who are being organized with younger and first-time voters or work to take the wind out of their sails through continued screaming for the truth to be known about this illegal invasion and the real truth about the economy. Here's hoping these people can be lulled back to sleep or next year is going to be extremely painful.
