Last week * visited San Antonio for a hot few hours of fund raising. Two of the nation’s largest military hospitals are in San Antonio – The Air Force’s Wilford Hall, and Brook Army – both hospitals have many of the maimed from the Haliburton Oil War.
It would have meant a lot to these injured soldiers and airmen had * come by for even a few minutes and “dropped off some coin” (awarded medals): instead, he was too busy in his pursuit of dollars at the swank affair on the River Walk.
At last such discordance between *’s words and deeds is gaining a little notice in the Official Press …

1. He musn't be associated with |

flag draped "transfer tubes" (body bags) or wounded soldiers. Wouldn't look good for his "happy" image.

2. Other presidents visited the injured |
|
including one Republican, Abraham Lincoln, who was famous for visiting the wounded Confederates as well as Yankees. In thinking how the current Repug treats the soldiers, I have a feeling that Old Abe is spinning in his grave....

If a helicopter is hit and another one is hit an hour later, should the President talk about both? He can't figure out the humane and decent thing to do? Is he even asking people to volunteer to visit these kids in the hospitals? Isn't that part of what the USO does? He is revolting.

5. Too bad she wasn't this brutal in late 2000 |

<snip>
If he gets more explicit, or allows the flag-draped coffins of fallen heroes to be photographed coming home, it will just remind people that the administration said this would be easy, and it's teeth-grindingly hard. And that the administration vowed to get Osama and Saddam and W.M.D., and hasn't. And that the Bush team that hyped the presence of Al Qaeda in Iraq has now created an Al Qaeda presence in Iraq. And that there was no decent plan for the occupation or for financing one, no plan for rotating or supporting troops stretched too thin to guard ammunition caches or police a fractious society, and no plan for getting out.
<snip>
Perhaps the solution to Mr. Bush's quandary is to coordinate his schedule so he can go to cities where he can attend both fund-raisers and funerals.
The law of averages suggests it shouldn't be hard.
