Dems need to focus more on things like arsenic on playgrounds |
|
Force the GOP on the defensive and make them defend the indefensible.
Ask questions like "do you care so little about children that you're willing to jeopardize their lives just because you don't want to be an inconvenience to corporations?"
You get the gist.

I remember seeing a post on that on this site and that's the ONLY time it's ever been brought up.
Things like this could definitely help.

and taxes and abortion interest so high, arsenic isn't going to register on the scale. We need to get the public on our side on the high-interest topics, not the detail topics. IMO

7. I'm not saying it should be the main issue |
|
But the GOP has been very good at taking things like so-called "partial birth abortion" and making it look like a huge problem. They have managed to paint a rare and life saving medical procedure as genocide and in doing so making the opposition appear evil. The facts are unimportant now because the debate has already been framed on the terms of the anti-choicers.
The dems need to learn to appeal more to emotions.

Such as:
fed2dneck would like to remind you to help control the conservative population. Have your Republican spayed or neutered.

9. Arsenic is a natural component of nearly all soils |
|
You will nearly always find levels on the order of 10 mg/kg(ppm) in natural soils in California. It is simply geology.
And, yes, a few (ignorant) people have raised a stink about low-levels of arsenic in soils. But the mere presence of arsenic is not a concern - it is there. It only becomes a concern at relatively high concentrations - around 100 mg/kg.

10. Soil isn't the problem here. CCA lumber is. |
|
Joe Scarborough is suing Osmose, the biggest manufacturer of Chromated Cupric Arsenate solution, because they're supposedly endangering children with CCA lumber (aka "pressure-treated lumber") used in playsets.
The weirdest thing here isn't that the most dangerous part of a wood playset isn't the arsenic-impregnated lumber (if the arsenic was half of the weight of the CCA charge, which it's not, there's a quarter-ounce of it in a 12-foot 2x6) but the physical hazards associated with these playsets. If you put a playset with a tower on it in your backyard and your neighbor's kid decides to play Superman off the roof, he will bust his ass (at the minimum) and you will get sued for maintaining an attractive nuisance.

We need to discuss the rollbacks in environmental protection. The pollution that causes asthma, the arsenic in drinking water, the not testing the nation's air and water. I think most Americans support these protections and we need to make it an isue.
