Why in the world doesn't some Republican
run against Bush for the Rep nomination?

The man's losing popularity, bad Iraq news daily, no hope for a balanced federal budget for years to come, tax cuts for the rich, the economy's restarting for about the fifth time already, where's Osama? Where's the WMD's?.

Have they given up on debate? democracy? Is it damn the torpedos, Bush forever!?

I seem to remember that there was always somebody 'running' against the president, though the president always wins his party's nomination in the end.

Maybe I'm making too much of this, but what's the deal?

1. Hell, get Tom McClintock...
...going against the party establishment was A-OK in California, someone should tell him it's fine for the country too.

Later.

2. They know better
The Republicans know how thoroughly vicious the Bush folks are, and they know what would happen to anyone who even hinted at running against him.

Traitor would be the mildest charge you'd hear.

There are no Zell Miller's in the GOP, people who spent their life getting elected by Democrats and then turning and stabbing us in the back.

The GOP is made up of good old boys and Stepford wives.

And the wives have all the balls.

4. You might just ask why no Nazi ran against Hitler
Answer: They would be crushed and destroyed

Hitler: Physically destroyed

Bush: Personally destroyed. Maybe a small plane crash but only if things get out of hand.

Violenec levels aside (and I understand how some might think this is a rather large factor not to be pooh-poohed), same result.

7. It seems that
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 01:28 PM by sable302
There isn't even a debate in the Republican party about what election 2004 should be about. The strategy seems to be raise as much money as possible and wait until the Dems pick someone.

Will they just hold on in Iraq and wait to trash whoever the Dems chose? Has such a plan ever won an election for anybody?

I honestly don't know of one blessed thing that the Republicans say they plan to do if America gives them four more years.

8. Perhaps they are afraid to interfere w/god's "chosen"
Maybe they see his apparent success no matter what missteps he makes, and really do believe it.

9. I think the GOP could win this election easily,
with any popular candidate BUT Bush. Republicans have won big in all the elections since 2000.

10. Check previous election numbers this early
Neither Clinton nor Reagan had numbers as high as this a year before the landslide reelection numbers they both got. They were each in the 40% range in polls a year before the election. If trends continue on the economy Bush could turn the whole country one big unhappy color on election night.

A year could also give time to show substantial improvement in the situation in Iraq.
