here it comes. We could have had a Clark/Gephardt ticket, which would destroy the Republican party for a generation. Instead, we'll have Dean/Nunn - two centrists with limited regional and personal appeal. With Clark/Gephardt, we would be talking about which congressional districts to go after. With Dean/Nunn, we'll be talking about how to make us look strong on national defense and gay marriage.
Ah well, I'm ABB. Good luck, Deanies, you're going to need it.

8. no I'm preparing how to convince my friends to vote for this ticket |
|
My friends and family would jump at the opportunity to vote for Clark/Gephardt. Convincing them to vote for Dean/Nunn is going to be a lot harder, that's all.

I know some Kucinich and Gephardt fans, but I don't know anybody who likes Clark. Most were put off by his assumption that he would be the instant frontrunner. Others, by the idea of having a president who's whole life is war.

11. Well, my family is typical of most Americans, heavy on Veterans |
|
Korean war vets, Vietnam war vets, current members in Iraq and around the world. So while you say Clark's "whole life being war" they would say "whole life serving our country".
The knee-jerk anti-military threads on DU would turn them off. It's going to be damned hard to get them excitied about Dean, but I'll do my best.

7. That union doesn't "rule" the AFL-CIO... |
|
The ASFME has yet to endorse, and they DO carry some clout of their own. I've heard that they will not be eager to follow SEIU's lead, so this makes for more interesting candidate competition for union enodrsements to come...

15. Funny...they didn't show the Fire Fighters endorsement of Kerry |
|
or even talk about it on their news shows. Post 9-11, the fire fighters endorsement would hurt Bush too much and the publicity would have helped Kerry get his name out.
Don't remember live endorsements of Gephardt either.

You know how I feel about Kerry, but the firefighter endoresement could have been HUGE if the media didn't ignore it. Since the begining, Dean's gotten the press.

25. Not really. At first Dean was given little attention. |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 03:47 PM by GumboYaYa
Only once he began to rise in the polls did the media begin to take notice. Unfortunately for the other campaigns, one side-effect of trying to gang tackle an opponent is that the opponent becomes the front-runner by default and gets more attention. If you are going to go after Dean, you damn sure better take him all the way down. If you don't, the attacks may ultimately help him solidify his position.

The good thing about union support is that the information about a candidate gets out to more people early on.

Why bother endorsing anyone at this point, especially making a big deal when their candidate may not even get the nod?

the unions are also looking at electability and at least these unions think that Dean has it. They are impressed with his fund raising, his primary numbers, and his crowds.
