1. You wanna keep your kid out of it
then make sure Bush* doesn't get elected. He gets back in office for another 4 years and we'll be invading Syria, and Iran next and you can bet the house that they will need a draft. We're already thinned out.

Unreal. My sister-in-law is a Bush supporter, mainly because he's a "Christian." She's got a 16 year old son. It's obvious she's not thinking straight. If I had a kid that age I would be up in arms, more than I already am.

27. I think a draft would cut down on wars.
But rich and college kids will have to go when their numbers come up.If every one goes who would want a war.

3. One is comming
the more they deny it the more likely it is to come, this is
the way with the administration

Start NOW a conscientous objector file, and contact organizations
that help with this.

Now how can he do it?

He just needs to sign the executive order and the Selective
Service Boards wil be in operation within 24 hours, and they are
asking for volunteeers for them boards

Bush will try to hold off until AFTER the election

I can smell one coming before the election, but definitely after
even if he should loose... hell of a way to criple the next president.

4. You and your family should convert to Quakers ASAP
Even then, they'll probably still want him.

My guess is they'll need at least 1 to 1.5 million troops for what they have planned in 2005.

My prediction is they'll invade Iran and Syria in October 2004 and the sheeple will blindly lemming their way over the electoral cliff.

5. Let's put it this way,
if Bush gets back in, and we invade Syria, or Iran or Both, this country is gonna go the way of the Roman Empire. It will be no more, because Bush will run us into the ground financially. Why not, he's run everything else he's ever run into the ground.

6. Can we please stop talking about the draft until something gains traction
The proposed draft bill is going no where in congress, Bush has said nothing on the subject and the only talk of drafts seems to be on DU not in the news.

Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 05:27 PM by Nederland
...those are mainstream media sources? Good grief. Until I see a draft bill in Congress with more than 20 supporters I will continue to maintain the position that the draft is not going to happen because:

1) The military doesn't want it.
2) The White House doesn't want it.
3) The Congress doesn't want it.
4) Americans don't want it.

The only people that want the draft are silly Democratic dreamers that would love to see Bush ask for a draft and lose the election in 2004 because of it. Its not going to happen--Karl Rove is not that stupid.

Instead of talking up hypotheticals we need to focus our ranting on things like Leakgate or American solider runs over child in tankGATE.

10. Excuse me
I am a High School Varsity Hockey coach. I coach 15 young men and women on the varsity team and another 30 on the JV. I do not want to see them die in a oily sandbox because of our failed foreign policy and lack of planning. As one of the repugs I work with puts it "Well it will just thin out the work force" that mentality will crush the middle/working class in America they will TAKE our SONS and DAUGHTERS to fight THEIR WAR to BENEFIT THEM. I want to protect my children is that too much to ask ?

13. By the time something gains traction
it is usually too late. Everyone said that we didn't need to worry about Roe v. Wade being overturned either...

Since we are up against the most evil regime in U.S. history, we need to think pre-emptively - raise awareness before the nightmare befalls us.

Perhaps the only way to keep from actually happening is to keep the issue alive in the mind.

Rethug maggots operate in the musty corners of ignorance, remember?

scares the living shit out of me, and I'm old enough that I'd never be dratfed. It is the single worst thing that I could imagine happening to this country, even though I'm sure there's worse.

16. I smell nothing but FEAR here....DON'T GO..It's that easy..
I served when i was young and dumb..I would NOT serve for this administration no matter what. Why is everyone so afraid? All you have to do is simply refuse to go...Burn your card and be done with it. Yea you might do a month in jail and they may threaten to ruin you life etc etc...It's all bullshit and when we finally pull through this tumultuous time and a SANE administration comes to power all of the Draft dodgers will be pardoned..Yet again...If there is a large enough movement of silent, no-violent refusal to serve, they will get the picture eventually that this war and the proposed draft were a fraud and the American people were not going for it. They can not and will not penalize us for that...I mean come on people, why they hell do you fear these cowardly bastards? Grow some balls..

17. Not Me
Were it not to feed Bush's military machine I would welcome the draft. I mean a draft with dam few deferments too, though the sons of the rich never have and never will serve in numbers worth mentioning - you know it and I know it. The thing is that being drafted is a real sobering event for a young guy, and for his family too, and its not one that tends to make war mongers out of most of them. So while I would hate to see my son go, or your son either, I still think that in a national sense that we just might be better off with a conscripted army rather than a wholy enlisted one. Remember, the guys that are in there now wanted to go to war, that is inplicit in having volunteered.

18. There will have to be a draft in the next 12-18 months.

Our military strength is now stretched to the absolute breaking point. We are now calling up the dregs of the guard and reserves to give the active duty troops a breather. Now there will be an additional 130 thousand troops bound for iraq.

That kind of troop strength will bread our military. The 'stop loss' orders cant last forever, and as soon as they are lifted you can bet that you'll see a mass exodus from the military ranks. They will have to be replaces with someone if the PNAC plans to own the mid east are to be carried thru.

Ergo, the draft.

22. I believe it's just a matter of time
the military is stretched to the limit, the forces in the ME now can't stay there forever without relief. I don't think there are enough recruits enlisting to fill the required numbers, and those ranks will have to be filled.
I believe that everything short of a draft will be done before the election, but if another election is stolen then nothing will stop this sociopath.
How to avoid it I don't know, I had heard that Canada was going to return draft evaders also, I think that people with the means may be looking at leaving for Europe or beyond. Poor people will become cannon fodder.
