What the hell is our point? Do "We" even know what we're fighting for?

Dumb question, I'm positive, flames of "I'm involved damnit! You're an asshole!" are expected.

Now my query. It involves the meat and potatoes (Props to thae dumbassed people) of the "WHY"?

Sure I'm working hard to play tennis (with any luck next Saturday....I really just wanted to have some beers with him, yet he's apparently a tea-drinker only, no alcohol...) with the nice guy from Bangledesh that I know, from the corner "Circle K", but, other than that Black "girl" in HR, I really don't have any "Minority" friends, I only recently realized how "White" my world was...

I have a philosophy that demands Equality, that demands Egalitarianism, that wants Social Harmony, yet (Like every activist event that I attend...) I really don't have many non-WASPS (Or other econo-ethnic acquantences) in my circle of friends!

Which made me think that we might be a bunch of (understandably) guilty Liberals wondering what the fuck went wrong with Society and why they're all so discombobulated?...

I guess that I'm trying to point out what should be obvious...I'm living in the perfect Republican World! I've got a good job, I've got a pension, I've got Healthcare when I need it, I've got a nice place to live, I've got...ME ME ME!

I harp constantly about Fair Trade, Women's Rights, Marriage (As in same-sex marriage) Freedom, National Healthcare (I've got bunches of it! Who want's some?!)Worker's Rights/Unions, Living Wages, Progressive Taxation (Or a Maximum Income...Why not? We've already got a Minimum Wage (Income), No?) yet the fact is that I live in WhiteManSuburbiana!

Am I an anomoly?

Why should I care, I'm OK, no?

Yes I'm drunk now...Figuratively as well as the easy to do "Literally".

Is this a GD thread? I would say so...Why? Because I'm sitting here wondering what the fuck "our" candidates are going to propose in a Macro sense outside of my happy existance? What will they do to make someone else's live better? Why? I'm SET! Fuck me!

What about everyone else?????

Who has a Macro Policy that takes in to account that some people get FUCKED in our "Happy Clappy" country????

Well?:-)

PS~ I only post this because every activist meeting that I've attended is mostly white...Not that this is an inherantly a "bad" thing but..

I think the "new rules" suck, but I had no say in them either. As long as we choose to post, we must obey. I think its a good topic, edit it so it's not locked...

Why? Because it's a rambling, yet soul searching, diatribe against the "Machine".

The "new rules" have a little wiggle room, just watch...

We do this because it's right. Not because it's right according to a few fanatics or an old book, because it's right under the amorphous and vague standards of human decency and hoping for a better life. It's about respecting everyone's philosophical rights and liberties, both the rights to free thought and speech, and the rights to living comfortably and being able to eat.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment VI

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

We're fighting to reinstitute our Constitutionally granted rights and freedoms, as I see it...

You just described him as THE only candidate who has the gonads to actually DO something for the regular people......the ones who don't have it 'all set.'

I hate to say it.....but a lot of white people who have it made (real security) get involved because (1) it is the right thing to do; (2) my life gets BETTER if the standard of living is better for the most people...hence, self-interest; and (3) it's easy to get all passionate about someone else's problems simply because the guillotine isn't really waiting for ME if I fail. It's pretty much risk free.

Now, for the little guy who doesn't have it made? the risks are sooooo great that I would imagine just TRYING to make the system more equitable is too excruciating. I mean......it's easier to be a victim and blame than it is to try and NOT WIN. Them's some sour lemons if one does lose the struggle.

11. You'd sure make a crappy Republican.
Basically, this is the way it is supposed to work. People who are struggling to survive have little time and energy to worry about government policies that are going to help or screw them. Those who don't have to concentrate all their energy on survival should give a hand up to others. So you don't have many friends of a diverse, cultural background? Most of the people in this world could say the same thing. At least you are able to empathize and give a crap about those different from yourself, which is truly a big step in human evolution. Give yourself credit and stop beating yourself up like some goddamned liberal!
