Army Org, Lesson 1: What Is The Army? And what is not the Army?
The United States Army is the world's premier land fighting force.

It is organized and equipped to defend the United States and the allies of the United States, to deter war, and to win wars should they become unavoidable.

(This is what the Army is supposed to be doing; a true soldier feels that what Bush is doing with the Army is reprehensible.)

There are many things the Army is not: It is not the Air Force. Although the Army has more aircraft than the other three services combined, it has no direct-turbine fixed-wing aircraft. All of the Army's fixed-wing aircraft have propellers. The Army is not the Navy; although the Army has more vessels than the Navy, almost none of them can be taken into the ocean. (The ocean-going vessels the Army owns are all hovercraft.) The Army is also not the police; it is not entitled to arrest civilians in the United States. In the event of a natural disaster, Army military police must be accompanied by civilian police.

This is a very short lesson, for a reason: it doesn't need to be any longer than it is. Lesson 2, "Echelons," will be much more entertaining.

4. Thanks guys! I appreciate these.
I've read TONS of military history, but never having served, a lot of the organizational stuff goes right past me.
