Is it the same in your town?
I live in a peppy little town in Alaska but since
9/11, its been as flat as stale beer. No one is
talking on the newsgroups that I belong to, at least
in the way they once did and everyone is quiet.

What about you? I think our country is in a fit
of emotional depression that is going to make the
elections a hard thing to call. Some people actually
believe in the devil you know and not the devil
you don't know.

Sigh. We need one really, *really* big ativan.

1. Actually, rv, things are picking up a little here in Fairbanks.
The Howlin' Dawg had a great fundraiser for the Food Bank and the bands, including Lulu and the Raines Brothers were very political. Lots of food got donated, plenty of $$ raised. Also, there's been a lot going on at UAF, and with NoNukesNorth.

Maybe there'll be a turnaround. I agree with the national depression idea strongly; unless there's a big movement for change, we may be in trouble. But I'm seeing more and more young people - on both sides - taking interest. That's a huge plus.

2. I Think We're All Waiting
To see whose throats Dimbo will cut next knowing it'll happen but powerless to stop it. I imagine Treblinka and Dachau were a lot like that.

3. Ypou are probably tired of hearing this
But we've been through this before during the commie witch hunts, Cold War and Vietnam. people do not often get any good lessons or awakeneings- at least not any that do not polarize and create the ills most feared or raged against. People who can correctly point out the truth of the situation will be often blamed for the whole bad feeling and results. We need truth- the whole truth and nothing but or this "mood" will only beget another cancer no matter how many good people become activists or enlightened.

We need to get back to the future and stop the Right's doomed jailbreak from history.
