"Yet our best trained, best educated, best prepared, best equipped"
"troops refuse to fight. In fact it's safe to say that they would rather switch ... then fight."

Who said this?

Fear of a Black Planet; rap hasn't been the same since;).

On Edit: Was it Fight the Power that sampled this bit?

6. thank you frank
Yes, I admit, I heard it first from Public Enemy. I humbly plead ignorance of the original source but always assumed it was MLK due to the voice - so where can I get the speech? - I obviously missed a whole lot here!

7. I don't have the whole speech
but it was supposidly said a few days before his murder.

I wish everyone at DU could hear him say it. Chills.

Sometimes I start my day with that, sometimes Tracy Chapman Talking About a Revolution, these days its a whole lot of "Peace Frog" and "Unknown Soldier."

No one spoke like MLK.

"Words can make the walls cave in." dead prez

9. was this about troops in Vietnam ?
I never heard the speech or heard that there were troops refusing to fight. Maybe MLK was aware of some tuth that was not making the mainstream at the time. I did read a book a long time ago about Vietnam era soldiers who CHOSE to stay in Vietnam, or moved there later. Not a huge number, but there are quite a number who took Vietnam as their country after a tour of duty.
