Terms of Engagement
I would like to make a general observation, and invite you to expand upon it with your own observations, or to discredit the reasoning or logic behind my implied assumptions.

For as far back as I can remember, (43 y.o.) it has always seemed that the conservative agenda has been a well planned and executed strategy designed to impose the will of a few upon the majority. Almost without exception we liberals have been forced to REACT to assaults against us personally and our civil liberties in general. The facts that are plain to me are that 1) we are losing badly, 2) there is nothing that seems to stir outrage amongst the general population, and 3) we really don't seem to have leaders who can articulate a plan to overcome this.

I believe that the reason we have arrived at this point is complacency and a lack of vigilance. While there are small groups that recognize threats in their areas of interest, there is no overarching directional leadership to advocate our positions. This translates to our ALWAYS fighting on THEIR terms of engagement.

Take, for example, selection 2000. Did it not seem that the Republicans had the whole plan laid out well in advance. We all know the story about Jeb getting up from dinner with bunnypants when Florida was going Dem and saying "I'll take of that". (My guess is that was when the Volusia county tampering took place). The brownshirts...Katherine Harris...etc...etc...etc. While the Democrats seemed to be the one's saying ...huh...wha'...what happened?

So the question is what prevents us from taking the offensive? Is it simply not in our nature? Are we afraid to fail? Are we afraid to succeed?

I'm quite certain we'll get the majority of votes again in 2004, but whether our candidate is allowed to take office is still debatable. Even if he/she does take office, it won't stop the right from pushing their agenda forward.

Does anyone else agree that we need a General and a strategy?
