Ashcroft: I will enforce the new Partial Birth Abortion Law
OK, now we all know that Bush signed into law the partial birth abortion ban.

See here:

Anyhow, judges in San Francisco, New York, and Nebraska issued rulings that decreased the law's influence. Now I was just thinking that the federal government was just going to fight it out in court.

However, Ashcroft is changing that now. Apparently, he is going to defy the judges' orders AND ACTUALLY ENFORCE THE LAW!!!

The government promised to defend a new law banning certain late-term abortions, despite rulings by three federal judges who blocked its enforcement so legal challenges — which they concluded would likely succeed — can go forward.

Now, do you think Ashcroft would arrest those that also have protection under the courts' ruling?

And if so, will he use the powers of the Patriot Act and charge the doctors will committing terrorism to fetuses?

All I have to say that in this time of great uncertaintly, the last thing we need is a constitutional crisis.

Thank heavens for the ACLU. Bill O'Really lambasts them, but they have done a lot more good than what the pundits say.

rammed this legislation through. He'll do what he can to enforce his god, his country, his ideals, his shallow self-interested crap. It's not surprising.

After this reign of terror
Provided to us by the Shrub disadministration, I fully believe that Asscroft needs to be thrown in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

Nice to see how one asshole can think he controls the law of the land.

Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 11:04 AM by tom_paine
He answers to Bunnypants*, Uncle Karl, and Heartless Dick, whom God appointed rulers of Imperial Amerika.

And that's good enough for him.

6. This should play out well
Will he prosecute the woman who had a terribly deformed baby aborted or will he prosecute the doctor who agreed to do it?

8. If asscrack wishes to enforce his wet-dream of a law
he better be prepared to arrest not only doctors and patients, but federal judges as well.

14. Sure, but who would actually physically stop him?
He would just ignore the order and that would be that.

he has already done it on more than one occasions, as have Cheney and the rest of the Busheviks.

People fail to realize that these Imperial Scum cannot be stopped by the mechanism of the Old Republic, which they do not respect and laugh at the fools trying to stop them within that framework.

(just like Hitler and Caeser before them)

Ashcroft is going to do the bidding of his Emperor. He is going to do it no matter what some weak-kneed judges or Imperial Senators say because .

And you might as well have asked why no SS men would come forward to drag Himmler off in chains.

Same thing. Just a "kinder and gentler" situation.

16. Bench Warrents are enforceable, should they be employed...
and I don't think any federal judge who was threatened with obsolecence or outright rejection would hesitate to use one.

18. They only think that
But there are others who do not. Just because someone is in control and in command of great power currently doesn't mean that will always be the case. Many "empires" have risen and fallen because leaders forgot that.

20. Calm down
He said he would "defend the law". That means he will put Justice Department lawyers on the case to fight it in court and try to have it held constitutional.

Don't get me wrong. I can't stand this sanctimonious prick and I'm completely against this abortion ban. A woman and her doctor should make the decision. Period. Government should stay out of it.

However, I don't think he said he would prosecute women in districts where the courts have enjoined the law.

"Defend the law" in Asscrofts book means that he'll get his jackbooted thugs to go knocking on doors of everyone who has violated his precious law and use his Patriot Act to imprison citizens unlawfully.

Not gonna happen. (amazed that I'm "defending" ashcroft) but we need to stay focused on FACTS and not freak out with hyperbole. Does us no good whatsoever.
