My brand new hate - Lou Dobbs
What is it with this guy? Everytime he interviews a candidate for president, his biggest issue is immigration. He repeats that over and over again, almost to the point that I believe this person may be harboring a little racist tendencies. Am I wrong here?

This morning, while eating breakfast and watching Imus, Dobbs was talking about how he totally disagreed with the policy of reducing troops in Iraq, stating that we should be sending many more. Hey, Lou. You ready to suit up buddy? Oh, you're too old. Do you have a son of draft age? A favorite nephew? How about they go over and spend some time playing policeman in the hot desert.

Yes, Mr. Dobbs has pissed me off. Am I off base?

1. Lou knows his pampered aristocratic progeny and relatives

are perfectly safe. Imperial Amerika is all about aristocratic privilege. Hell, an argument could be made that a good bit of the Old Republic was, too. (but at least 10% of it or perhaps more was devoted to bettering the lives of regular people)

6. Hell, in the Old Republic (and the old Confederacy for that matter)
the priviledged classes like to go to war. It was part of their macho/noblesse oblige mind set.

Unlike their later 20th century counterparts, who have been to a man (and woman) chickenhawks.

2. I only ever watched him for about 5 minutes once...
and found him to be the most arrogant, pretentious ASS I had ever seen on TV.

I wasn't about to put myself through that again.

3. You need to read...
... What Liberal Media? by Eric Alterman - he gave a good 'bio' for Mr. Dobbs, who is a naked Republican Partisan (he gave money to Bush last time).

7. He should be tossed off the air
Any journalist who is 1) not intentionally registered as a Independent or who 2) gives money to candidates, should not be allowed a camera or byline.

9. ha! Journalism is dead in this country

Bringing back true journalism should be our main emphasis after the elections.

Because we ain't gonna win any elections until we have truth in media again.

5. you are right on
you are right on target with that racism bit. I noticed this emerge suddenly in a conversation he was having with a guest, out of the blue Dobbs said "we need to get this immigration problem handled if we're going to fix the economy". This is classic Republican racism. He implies, like all Republicans, that the problems in the economy are coming from the outside rather than from internal policy. He is absolutely convinced that Mexicans are stealing our manufacturing and service-based jobs, while everybody knows that the jobs Mexicans immigrants get are predominantly labor-agricultural jobs. Unbelievable. He ignores the massive EMIGRATION of American jobs and focuses on IMMIGRATION. Classic straw-man.

11. Absolutely - it just comes out of thin air
Out of the blue he'll bring up immigration. And I think you are right on about Mexican immigration and they're "taking our jobs" and "using our govt. resources" bit that many on the right believe in. I think Mr. Dobbs is just the least bit elitist, and possibly a bigot, too.

8. If the US gov't is paying mullahs in the middle east to be "moderate"
I am convinced they're paying Lou Dobbs to schill for them.

He is one of the biggest whores I've ever seen.

I can't stand the sight of his ugly comb-over head.

10. you aren't off base
Dobbs has an unhealthy obsession with 'illegal aliens' (as he insists they be called, rather than 'undocumented workers). There's an odd hysteria, close to hatred, when he brings up the subject - which he does frequently. I swear his eyes glaze over and he practically spits. It's absolutely bizarre.

What *I* want to know is - what jobs are undocumented workers taking away from this fatass and his rich friends? Why the scapegoating?
