TV Show "Reporting America at War" will be on PBS next Weds.
Hey people,

There is a new documentary that will be shown on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2003. For those of you on the East Coast, it will start at 9 PM (EST). It is on PBS, so I would assume that it would start at 9 PM in all Time Zones. It does in Hawaii.

Anyhow, the show is called "Reporting America at War" . They have different reporters talk about their experiences in jounalism at war. The wars range from WW II to the current Iraq war. They also do an analysis of the Iraq War coverage.

I did not see the first one, but this is the second part.

Who is going to be on this show? Journalists like Christiane Amanpour, the one who criticized Fox News, Peter Arnett, the Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist who was critical of the United States on Iraq State TV prior to the war, Walter Cronkite, the self-avowed liberal journalist, and Edward R. Murrow, the one who exposed the dictatorial Senator Joseph McCarthy. To find out the entire list of journlists, click here (I'm not sure if the last two were already on the first one).

This looks like a wonderful piece and something that everyone should watch. To go to the main website, click here

Click here to see what time it will start in your area.

1. The first episode was excellent

Among the accounts in episode one was Robert Capa (the photographer) going ashore with Co "E" 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry Regiment, commanded by one Captain Wozenski. Wozenski's brief account of the assault is available at:
www.warchronicle.com/16th_infantry/soldiersstories_wwii/wozenski.htm .
In this accounty, Wozenski mentions his friend and comrade, Capt. John GW Finke, who was the father of one of my two or three best friends in the world and who commanded Co "F" alongside him (though on D-Day, "alongside" is a putative term -- the confusion was absolute).
Wozenski recounts his meeting back up with Capt. Finke atop the bluff after the initial assault, and that Finke had been shot in the head (thankfully, a grazing wound) and was bleeding all over the place.
Long story short: Captain Finke was evacuated and earned a Distinguished Service Cross for his actions that morning (he'd win a second one at the Rohn River crossing in November). Annie and her brother, Detmar, played with the holed helmet and liner as children (she was born in 1940), and said helmet is now in the 1st Infantry Division Museum.
John
Annie also has some great stories about such things as going to the horse track with Creighton Abrams (Patton's right-hand man, namesake of the Army's current main battle tank and good friend of Capt. Finke).
ON EDIT: I've checked the link several times and can't access the file. Could some internet genius (we have a bunch here) please figure out what I'm doing wrong?
