why dean should opt out of matching funds
with a whopping 52% of dean's supporters giving $200.00 or less, it makes sense that dean should opt out of the matching funds as these are donors that he can go back to time and time again. in contrast, kerry $200.00 and under donors make up 14%. i understand that kerry's wife is a very wealthy woman but is she not held to the same campaign finance laws that we all are? 4371 of those supporting kerry have already maxed out for the primary portion of the campaign, while 1579 of dean's supporters have maxed out...very revealing chart here

1. Kerry's wife IS held to the same laws as everyone else...
...however she can fund other things for the campaign such as "issue ads".

Kerry can use any anount of his own considerable wealth to self finance his campaign.

2. It's not abot the primaries (Dean's got the most money anyway)
It's about the general election...you know, the one where he'll be up against Bush's estimated $200M+. To be stuck with a limit of $45M would be tragic. I know he'd get a lot of matching funds, but the spending limits would kill any campaign.
