2. Hmmm - isn't that just about the exact number
you want, if you're trying to keep wages depressed? Can't remember the specific figure. Anyone else know?

5. Under Reagan the unemploymen rate stood between...
5.5% and 6.0%! But it looked good because we were coming our of a deep reccession and 11% unemployment! It most likely keeps wages down!

11. Yep, the "natural rate of unemployment"
Sort of like how kings "naturally" rule over us and rich people "naturally" have more say in our political system.

6. So, take a hundred thousand a year job and divide by 6
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 06:19 PM by Military Brat
That gives you about eight jobs where there used to be one. What's the big deal about 6 percent? People are taking whatever they can get. And people who can't get anything, give up after a while. Now, that's the way to get the little "wimmen" back in the kitchen and pregnant and barefoot.

The numbers will be revised, but they won't be trumpeted. bush's wave is going to turn into a shock wave.

7. and let's not forget:
That number only represents people collecting unemployment. The very large numebr of people whose benefits have run out or who don't apply for it for bizarre "pride" issues are not included.

13. Actually
This only represents the NEW jobless claims for the month. So sure there were less than the previous month but let's be honest.. many people get stiffed out of Unemployment when they lose their jobs so they don't make claims anyways. The actual unemployment figures are probably 15% or higher when you count all the jobless people that aren't putzing around with the Unemployment system the Government has set up.

Besides anyone who has really used it knows that it is extremely hard unless you're the victim of an actual layoff, to show that you were let go for invalid reasons. 99 times out of 100 the Unemployment investigators side with the companies.

15. Stock market is completely unrelated,
They bought on the rumor and sold on the news.

There were also fears of terrorism coming out later in the session.
