More propaganda from PARADE Magazine: evidence of state run media
http://www.parade.com/

This Sunday's Parade magazine (comes with the Washington Post, and probably countless other newspapers) had 2 stories:
"The Pledge Will Never Be Just Words For Me" - by Jessica Lynch

Also included in this issue was the story:
"Honor Killings Reach England" (about Muslim father killing his daughter for marrying a Christian boy).

Also included were ads:
"Celebrate American Heroism" - videos about WWII

and

"Vietnam Veterans Service Ring" - "now you can wear the symbol of service, sacrifice and sacred duty."

How can this NOT be state-run media?????????!!!!!!!

1. Marketing 101
Parade magazine has to sell advertising. That's the name of the game.

2. no - anti-war folks have plenty of money to spend!
who is buying the "vietnam veterans service ring"? really? who in your neighborhood/circle of friends is interested in such a thing?

there are thousands of companies that sell and would like to advertise their wares that do not support bush & co's war plan. And their products would have greater appeal to a wider audience.

Parade is part of the machine.

3. That's exactly my point
This feature in Parade magazine is being heavily advertised. They want to sell more papers, they have more ads featuring products that their marketed demographics would want to buy. Hence all the junk.
An example: Look in any sports page of your daily newspaper. Analyze it. Lots of ads for sports cars and "gentlemen's clubs".
Parade Magazine is only following the formula.

4. Without having read the article...
"Also included in this issue was the story: 'Honor Killings Reach England' (about Muslim father killing his daughter for marrying a Christian boy)."

what is wrong with a story about Muslim honor killings? They are quite real, and absolutely horrific. The practice is not terribly uncommon in many Islamic countries. Should we be politically correct and not speak of it for fear of offending anyone.

"This Sunday's Parade magazine (comes with the Washington Post, and probably countless other newspapers) had 2 stories: 'The Pledge Will Never Be Just Words For Me' - by Jessica Lynch"

And? She was a soldier and after a horrific ordeal many military men and women suddenly feel a lot different about the US Flag, our freedoms and the country we live in.

Isn't Jessica Lynch the one disputing the militaries propagandizing her capture and rescue?

"Also included were ads: 'Celebrate American Heroism' - videos about WWII"

Should we not celebrate American Heroism in WWII?

Geeze. Your reaction to these stories is a good reason why the Left is losing the sympathy and support of average Americans.

Some of these are the types of feel good stories that sell well because Americans historically like to read them. This is not some new phenomenon. And I absolutely think the media should publicize "honor killings" as it is an absolutely barbaric practice.

6. Stories about WWII soldier victories put next to ...
...stories about those retched backward Muslims are far from innocent.

Individually, all of these stories have some merit. Crammed into a one 15-page leaflet is just too suspect.

5. Don't be so naive
Parade has always targeted the conservative crowd. Like the other poster said, it is all about the money.

Is the National Review "evidence" of state-run media? How about the Village Voice?

7. No - they are legitimatizing the basest of emotions
This week's Parade is not so different from anti-semitic films put out by Nazis.

Calling attention to stories that highlight the "parasitic" nature of Jews, at the same time glorifying the heroism of German soldiers...

Please - we are just getting too close to this model.
