McDonald's CEO Upset Over 'McJob' Entry
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20031108_296.html

CHICAGO Nov. 8 — McDonald's says it deserves a break from the unflattering way the latest Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary depicts its job opportunities. Among some 10,000 new additions to an updated version released in June was the term "McJob," defined as "low paying and dead-end work."

In an open letter to Merriam-Webster, McDonald's CEO Jim Cantalupo said the term is "an inaccurate description of restaurant employment" and "a slap in the face to the 12 million men and women" who work in the restaurant industry.

1. Yeah sure.
And the fry-cooks who work there are able to put themselves through college solely on how much they're paid. Please!

2. Maybe it should be WalJob
For WalMart. Anyway, McJob is perfectly descriptive, and everyone knows what it means - namely, what GWB has in mind for 95% of us.

4. We need to make sure the same thing happens to Wal-Mart someday
Wal-Mart - v. - To engage in predatory competition to the point that small businesses shut down and average wages for the community decline because of your very presence.

Or something like that. :)

3. Ever see the "60 Minutes" segment that focused on
McDonalds' lawsuit against some guy who used its name for his business? The guy lived in Scotland, and his name was McDonald!

5. I suppose
ole Jimbo worked his way up from fry cook to CEO, huh?

If they weren't losing sales, I don't think he would make a squeek.

6. A high-stakes critic had an interesting theory...
He claims that high-stakes tests are designed to make students fail. That way, when graduates wind up working for McDonalds, they won't be able to blame public schools or the government; the government can just say, "You failed your tests because you didn't work hard enough."

I think this argument, or variations of it, have a lot of merit. Remember when Bill Gates said he had to outsource jobs to India, because there aren't enough qualified high-tech employees in the U.S.? Baloney! Bill Gates is a liar. There are plenty of qualified employees; he just doesn't want to pay them fair wages.

But imagine if high-stakes tests and other destructive policies dumbed down an entire generation of Americans, leaving us with a REAL shortage of qualified high-tech workers. Then Gates and other traitors would have perfect excuse to outsource jobs. In addition, the muddled masses might be less likely to vote if they were programmed to thank that they deserve nothing more than "a break today at McDonalds."

OUR public schools have already been privatized!
