A practical question about primary petitions.
Yesterday I was out getting signatures to get Dean on the Illinois primary ballot and ran into a slight problem - the ball-point pens I was using kept acting like they were running out of ink from the cold! I was wondering if anyone out there's come up with a practical solution to this. Do gel pens work better? Obviously I don't want to use pencil for a petition. Any suggestions from people experienced in this?

Also, any tips on getting better response? I tended to get more people to do it if I outright approached them with what I wanted to do - put Dean on the ballot, rather than asking them if they were registered Democrats.

1. Carry a lighter with you, briefly heat the tip of the pen
works on clogged pens too

I can't help you with the other advice

2. Thanks.
I forgot about that. Quit smoking over a year ago!
