Our party is in disarray
I propose that we find someone capable of leading the party that can unify our message using Karl Roves tactic against him. No lies, but a consistant message. Imagine tuning into any news channel and hearing every democrat saying the same message. One committee decides what the message is for that week and everyone "uses" the media to saturate the airwaves. Sort of a political "Unified Theory". Whats your opinion?

Also why do the current democratic candidates keep providing soundbites for the puggies to use against us? It is self defeating.

15. I did the same thing and I think he wanted us to think about stuff.
Like what was wrong with our party. Maybe that is what is wrong with this party, we are all sort of looking at the fun side of life.

16. I really don't think there is anything wrong
with the party. I think our method of delivering our message is not working. And our party leadership is doing nothing to address this.

2. I am always suspicious of the "OUR PARTY" thing
the reasons Dems don't all say THE SAME MESSAGE is because we, UNLIKE THE GESTAPO GOP, are VERY DIVERSE.

5. you have to fight
fire with fire. This election and thse times are politically different from anytime in my life. Except the devisive period during Nam when the lying pres. was LBJ (Gulf of Tonkin). We need to do something to unit against this monster. Swing voters will decide this election and we need to sway them.

we have to behave like those goose-stepping, lying thugs to win. We just need to combat their LIES effectively.

3. In further news...
...Sun rises in east.
...Sox blow pennant.
...Ice is cold, scientists say.

"Our party is in disarray" is the normal state of affairs. It's a fact of life among Democrats.

When you have as one of your core missions the representation of the points of view of many different groups and constituencies, 'message discipline' will be difficult.

The lack of a unified 'message of the week' is the corresponding vice peculiar to Democratic virtue.

6. Bush and his party are doing half the work on their own
It's really not that hard to topple a tree
infested with bark beetles and in this case
an administration basing its policies on lies
and deception.

It's just a matter of pointing out to everyone
that the tree is infested and must be removed.

I too am leery of threads that start
as yours does.

17. With polls saying that more people wouldn't vote for Bush
I think the message that has resonated that the reasons
presented for invading Iraq were suspect and thin,
people may see a bounce in the stock market, but know
that fees have been raised and their own jobs are
at risk to going overseas. Women's right to choose
has been further eroded by this latest language signed
by Bush and The White Men. Any American can be jailed
without cause or wiretapped, privacy invaded via
the Net etc.

The primaries will choose a Dem and we will, as
Dems, unite with that candidate and make it clear
to the public who don't read newspapers, what the
truth is.

7. i hate this idea
how about this message-
life is not black and white (i don't mean race here), it is full of shades of grey. for every complex problem, there is an answer that is simple, elegant and WRONG. do we wish things were simple? sure. does that make it so? no. stop being simple. stop looking for simple answers. THINK. if that hurts your brain, stay home on election day.

25. au contraire...........
We'd be failing if only one person had to be pushed to be our candidate. We've got 9 people vying to lead our Party. This is how a democracy works. We value differences of opinion and ideas.

The Republicans are exactly oppositte. There is no room to question the "fearless leader". Any dissent is shut down as "anti-American". They have a "message" that comes down from central command. They have a well oiled propaganda machine that is synchronized so that the message is delvered to the brainwashed faithful in a monotonous manner. Their idea of democracy is use the American flag as if it were their patented symbol. Protecting that flag and shreding the constitution.

ANyway, I suggest you wait until after the primaries...I think you're going to be surprised just how unified Democrats are going to be in this election.

18. It may not be "getting across" to swing voters...
Edited on Sun Nov-09-03 01:25 PM by Isome
in the same way the GOP gets it's message across, but the swing voters are hearing our message, and more importantly, they're feeling the message * is sending them. Swing voters have been affected by his domestic, economic, and foreign policies, and they're getting the message that * is a 'miserable failure' (thank you Dick Gephardt). That makes them more attuned to what the Democrats are saying, even though we don't get as much press coverage.

As someone pointed out, the GOP uses some tactics that cannot work for us, though I do think some will. We're not automatons. We understand that most of life's problems won't be solved with either/or solutions. We're diverse; our issues are diverse; strategies for solving problems are diverse. We're not in disarray, we're simply not mindless followers who can be given a set of issues to think & talk about by our leadership, and then not think & talk about anything else.

19. All excellent points
and I agree 100 percent with your assesment. My whole message seems to have been lost. Let me put it this way. Bushes poll numbers should be much more abismal than they are. When "our" massage was strongest i.e. WMD, Wilson affair, Iraq mismanagement. The massage was carried because all of our side was pushing those issues. They seem to have faded, why arent we still talking about all this everynight on the news? Swing voters are forgeting these inportant issues and instead are hearing about Jessica Lynchs made for tv movie. We need to be pounding out the messages consistently and consistant with our beliefs. I'm not hearing it, instead the media is focused on our in fighting about Deans rebel flag statement. I thought more people here would have ideas instead of critisism.

26. Poll numbers........
If elections can be manipulated, why couldn't polls?

Put another way, if 90% of the people were against this administration, but corporate media had a vested interest in maintaing the illusion that Bush was "popular"....how would you be able to prove otherwise?

20. check out the DNC's blog
it's called "Kicking Ass."

Here's the most recent entry:

Why I'm a Democrat

The quality of health care minorities in America receive continues to be shockingly sub par. And it's getting worse; the number of African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Pacific Islanders without health coverage continues to rise.

The Democratic leadership of the House and Senate has introduced the Healthcare Equality and Accountability Act of 2003 to eliminate minority health care disparities. Among other provisions, the legislation would:

* Expand enrollment in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.
* Remove language and cultural barriers to receiving health care services.
* Work to improve diversity in the health care profession.
* Create new programs to study and eliminate disparities in minority health care.
* Direct resources to institutions that provide health care services to minority populations.

This is why I'm a Democrat. Time and time again, it is Democrats who face the real problems of American families, and it is Democrats who work to find the solutions.

The New Deal, Social Security, Medicare, the Great Society: all programs created by Democrats to make America better.

That legacy continues every day, and this bill is part of it.

You can get more details about the Healthcare Equality and Accountability Act at the House Democratic leadership website.

21. So what else is new? Will Rogers, in the 1930s said...
"I don't belong to an organized political party. I'm a Democrat." The Democrat party has always disorderly & messy. That how it works.

23. I believe that once a few primaries have been decided
and the front-runners become clearly established, the message will be more focused. I hope that the media will then provide more coverage to alternatives to * views, but I am not optimistic about that.
