Tell him why he should be a democrat

Subject: A question for my local group

I am thinking about becoming more involved in the political process
and since I have been a democrat all my life it would seem natural
to join the party. Of late however, I find the party in general to
be non committal on many things of concern for me. The party seems
weak and in retreat from the Republican Party. For instance, this
week we have been told about how unemployment is down but I do not
hear the Democratic Party spinning that to what I see as being bad
news. From my perch, the downturn in unemployment is caused by the
war activating reserves from their current jobs and the increase in
military spending that only creates short turn jobs that can not
offset the spending this country is doing. In short, both the short
term and long term growth for this country is only sustainable by
war with the current administration but I see nothing coming out of
the democratic party to pop the administrations bubble. With the
tides of change and unrest in this country looking for real change,
why is the democratic party so non committal on issues? I need to
understand this before I become committed to joining. Thank you in

1. WE lead, THEY follow

Unfortunately there's not enough of us out there.

All pols follow polls and have to have a big enough core of support to venture outside the conventional wisdom. Otherwise it is political suicide. Therefore we need your friend's voice heard.

Like me, many Americans stopped paying a lot of attention to politics until 911 and Iraq. Like many, I thought this country seemed governed by one party with two wings.

After starting to pay closer attention, by watching CSPAN and reading papers on the internet, I saw that opposition to Bush and his outrageous policies really was alive and well. You just don't hear about it in the mainstream media.

The tides of change you refer to are just beginning to stir and have not yet reached critical mass. The country is still 50-50. Most of us hope for a leader who can take the truth and LEAD the rest of the people in the right direction; but someone gifted enough just hasn't come along yet in the right package.

We need to help our leaders lead by leading them. Write, call, email, discuss. Its money versus people; money wins every time if we can't get enough people behind our leaders who are willing to challenge the status quo and the monied interests. Its your obligation to stop complaining and be a Democrat who demands more from our leaders.
